Hey Fei! Writing to provide feedback on training received. Here is a little story that illustrates the importance of quality instruction. There was a sign right there: Passing Lane 2 km Because the Birdtail was right there. She was tailgating me, so I couldn’t see her in my mirrors. As I was entering the right curve, she chose to use what she thought was a passing lane. Again, couldn’t see her in my mirrors. Even worse, the Super-B coming around the bend couldn’t see her because my truck obstructed his view of his lane. She becomes visible in my mirrors, I see her lights. I kicked the rig over towards the shoulder and made the tires squeal like a hog slaughter. Being in a, now, extra tight turn loaded down, the jackknife starts. The load continuing straight ahead into the area the passenger car needed to get out of the path of the oncoming LCV. Hammer and anvil with two girls oblivious to the danger. But, a smooth counter steer while releasing the brakes and accelerating pulls the kingpin around to the shoulder to open space for the vehicle to escape death. Angels were watching over them that night. A special thanks to Dan, whose words were in my ear as night fell on the end of a long series of days on long haul: “No load is worth a life.” Also, his story of taking the ditch to protect an errant driver led me into the beginning of the maneuver. Also thanks to Adam, who answered my many questions with valuable insight into the forces affecting Class 1 vehicles. I was calm and analytic, in stressful, critical circumstances. I passed my Class 3 road test today after completing 10 hours of training at Professional Transport Driver School. The instruction was high-quality, and the course covered all the key points I needed to succeed. My instructors were friendly, patient, and very knowledgeable.
