This company only thinks about money and not the customer's needs. I am a beginner driver and I warned them that I needed many lessons before the practical test; therefore, they would have to give me at least one one-hour lesson per day for a week before the test. But they didn't do that; they scheduled a lesson every 15 days; this way, I couldn't memorize the whole procedure. They don't adapt the student's reality to the driving school, on the contrary, they want the student to adapt to the driving school's lesson schedule. They only informed me that the schedule was one lesson every 15 days after I signed the contract. This is dishonest. On the eve of the lessons, the secretary would call me to say that I had a lesson the next day; on the last lesson, which should have been hours before the test, they didn't call me a day before to confirm the time I could attend the last lesson; the owner's explanation was that the secretary had gone on vacation the day before, so it wasn't possible to call and confirm the lesson. So, in the parking lot of the driving test location, while we were waiting for the examiner, he started pressuring me to pay the other half of the amount stipulated in the contract. He told me I would have to pay in cash or by bank transfer because he couldn't go to the driving school office since the secretary was on vacation and wouldn't be able to use the card machine. Since I don't carry cash, I had to make a bank transfer to him. During the 20 minutes it took for the money to arrive in his account, he kept pressuring me to cancel the transfer and try again because it hadn't worked. He owns a driving school and doesn't know that depending on the bank, a bank transfer takes 10 to 30 minutes to be processed. At no point did he think that all these events could destabilize me. He only thought about himself. All these events affected me deeply; I became nervous and couldn't concentrate, so I only drove a few meters and made many mistakes. The examiner made me drive around the block and park the car in the parking lot of the driving test location, saying I could come back in 10 days, better prepared. On the day of the test, I missed work and therefore lost the opportunity to earn $360. I hope some beginner driver, like me, reads this review and doesn't make the same mistake I did when doing business with this driving school. *Edit:That same afternoon, I went to another driving school to restart the process and explained what had happened with Alves Driving School, hoping to avoid a repeat of the same problem. The new school assured me I wouldn't have any issues with them; if they felt a student wasn't ready, they were legally permitted to reschedule the exam for a later date, provided they did so at least 48 hours in advance. Alves Driving School never mentioned that rescheduling was an option; they almost certainly do this on purpose so the student fails and has to start a new contract. This is further proof that they care only about money, not the customer's needs. Read Less

Paul was great at understanding what skills I lacked. Helped me practice things I felt less comfortable with which gave me the confidence I needed.

Had a great experience doing driving lessons with Alves Driving School over the last 6-7 weeks or so in preparation for my G2 test. I had Paul as an instructor and would see him weekly for an hour. Paul was a patient, supportive and knowledgeable instructor as he was also previously an examiner at a location within the GTA. Highly recommend as I will be returning to do G lessons with the school as well. Read Less

Here is my in-depth review of my experience with this driving school: Pros: ~The in class lesson content is easy ~The secretary is organized Cons: ~The teacher who taught the in-class lesson, although easy to talk to, goes off topic in the lessons to the point of political discourse which wastes class time then rushes the lessons near the end ~My negative experience has got to be the in-vehicle instructor I've had: I had some guy name Norm who: 1) Did not provide good feedback. If I ask him what I need to work on, if I'm doing well or not and he'll say "What do you think?" What kind of answer is that? 2) I have never driven a car ever, so he gets frustrated and impatient when I make mistakes and instead of explaining to me clearly he asks me in a condescending tone "why did you do that? Huh?" 3) He wanted me to drive thru an amber in the rain when you are SUPPOSE TO SLOW DOWN but he got angry, looked at me and said "You have to do what I tell you to do no questions asked!" 4) Every lesson he would say I'm getting worse. The last lesson he said: "A person is suppose to get better with every lesson, not get worse like you" 5) He would tell me to make left turns quickly without yielding to oncoming traffic 6) If I ask him to clarify something I don't understand he would tell me "What did I just say?" 7) I was driving on a curve with an orange sign that said 15km/hr and he told me to drive faster and I said but that sign says 15km/hr and he said "what did I tell you?" I would always have to guess and he wouldn't even tell me 8) When I DO try to listen to his directions "no questions asked", he'll then say "you take things literally don't you?" 9) He often talks on the phone during each lesson which is unprofessional At the end of each lesson I come home crying because he makes me feel like I will never be able to drive. I am already nervous behind the wheel so this guy berrating at me only makes things worse. The fact that I am PAYING this guy to teach me how to drive, which helps put food on his table, and I get treated like a stupid child by talking down like that is absolutely despicable! It is unprofessional and rude. A driving instructor is suppose to be patient since students like me have no driving experience compared to their long experience in driving. I have switched to another driving instructor who is hopefully better but I have wasted $120 from those 3 lessons with that Norm guy. The motto of this driving school is "drive with confidence" but I lose confidence every time I have an in-vehicle driving lesson! I do not recommend this driving school especially that driving instructor. Read Less

Read Less
