I honestly cannot recommend Ray highly enough. After 14 lessons with a previous instructor, I felt like I was getting nowhere. I switched to Ray, and in just two lessons, I learned more than I had in all those previous sessions combined. Ray's depth of knowledge and experience is immediately obvious. He knew exactly how to correct my mistakes and build my confidence. His teaching style just clicked, and he prepared me perfectly for the test. I had a terrible experience with their instructor, Raymond Crilly. Initially, he seemed fine — polite and familiar with the Raheny routes. However, I quickly noticed that anytime I glanced over, he would be looking down at his phone. As a nervous driver, this made me very uncomfortable, but I’m not a confrontational person, so I said nothing. After 10 lessons, I decided to try another instructor, Mike (not from this company), on my dad’s recommendation. Mike was great — never touched his phone, and was really informative. However, he was hard to book, so for convenience, I went back to Ray for my 12th lesson. When I mentioned I had done my 11th lesson with someone else, Ray’s attitude completely changed. He spent the entire drive berating me in the most condescending tone. I hadn’t stalled in four months, but I was so rattled by his manner that I stalled three times at one light. Eventually, I’d had enough and ended the lesson early. When I brought up the phone issue, he snapped back saying he has “a business to run.” So, if you want to pay an instructor €50 an hour to come second to his phone and be spoken down to, Raymond Crilly is your man. Personally, I believe an instructor should be present, supportive, and prioritise your current lesson over chasing future clients.
