I had James as my instructor. He got my 12 lessons in very quickly, however there are many issues with him as an instructor. We had asked him to check if what I had for insurance was okay for the RSA when I would be doing my test. He said it was perfect while barely giving it a glance, yet on the day the RSA completely rejected it. I had a pretest with another instructor in Navan — I had to do my exam out here after my test was cancelled when the driving instructor turned away my insurance document — and he had given me excellent advice that James hadn’t. The other instructor went into detail about road signs, faults that can be given, and things to watch out on. I passed first try with 2 faults. If I had done the exam with what James had told me, I likely would’ve failed. James was also extremely expensive, and our “deal” for getting all 12 with him was still above almost all other prices we could find. He made consistent comments about our ‘wealth’ and consistent said we could afford it plenty when we discussed any cheaper options. I lost a lot of money when I was rebooking a test (when he failed to assess my insurance) and another pretest, aswell as his expensive pricing. He can be difficult (only does pretests if we collect him from his house etc…). From my experience James was only useful for getting your 12 lessons done quickly, but without quality or knowledge. If you go with him, I would definitely recommend doing atleast one pretest with another instructor. Read Less

I recently completed a few pre-test driving lessons with James from DunLaoire School of Motoring and I couldn’t recommend him highly enough. He was incredibly patient throughout each lesson, which really helped build my confidence behind the wheel. His encouraging approach made a big difference, especially when working on areas I found challenging. James is also very knowledgeable and provided clear, practical advice that was directly relevant to the driving test.
