Highlighlanders Campsites and Lodges is a lovely, small vineyard in the stunning Cederberg region of South Africa. The setting is breathtaking, and the relaxed vibe, combined with a great bar and pool, makes it a great place to unwind.
The wine tasting that they offer is a highlight—not only is it well-priced, but it’s also a fantastic way to sample some excellent local wines that are made from grapes at the vineyard. We stayed in the lodges, which were beautifully designed and very comfortable.
That said, a few small improvements would make the experience even better:
1. No WiFi: The lack of WiFi onsite and limited phone signal made it tricky to stay connected. While it’s not a dealbreaker, having internet access would have been really useful as this was our first stop after Namibia.
2. Broken Lock: The lock on our lodge door wasn’t working (I think we stayed in Sauvignon Blanc), which felt a bit inconvenient, even though the site itself feels very secure.
3. Hot Water Issues: The water in the lodge took a long time to heat up, which wasn’t ideal and made me conscious of the amount of water being used.
4. No Breakfast: There’s no breakfast available onsite, and given the remote location, it’s worth planning ahead unless you’re set up to cook for yourself at one of the camping facilities.
Despite these minor points, I’d definitely stay here again. It’s a wonderful place, and with a few small upgrades, it would be even better. Read Less
