After failing my bike test at 17 my confidence took a massive nose dive. While all of my friends were flying through their driving tests, the years flew by and I just made excuses as to why I hadn’t done it. I had another go at 30 and hated it, my instructor was an inhuman dinosaur! That put me off for another 14 years, until finally my partner nagged me to the point of biting the bullet! .The first lesson I had with Jan I was absolutely terrified, a total mess. But straight away knew I had chosen the right person for this mammoth task. Yes she’s an excellent driving instructor, but with me I needed extra, I had zero confidence and no belief in myself, as I was in the “mature” bracket. That lady managed to coax out of me something that I never thought I could or would achieve. If driving instructors could get OBE’s Jan would certainly have one! I first tried to learn to drive at 17 and did not succeed. I tried again at 24, 28, 32 and so on. It wasn't until I found Jan as a driving instructor that I finally succeeded, aged 49. I've been driving for 5 years, safely, and am so grateful to Jan for her patience and emotional intelligence. She worked out what my psychological barriers to learning were as well as conceptual ones, and managed to succeed where so many others had failed. Jan is patient, practical, focused and determined. Due to work hours, college hours and the locations of both being an hour away from one another (with my home somewhere in the middle!) it was pretty imperative that I learned how to drive. I had multiple instructors before I decided to try BSM, and I can say that now after two years having passed my tests, that it was the best decision I made for my motoring learning experience! My instructor, Jan McMorrow, made everything incredibly easy to follow and understand; making sure to explain and demonstrate things to me very clearly - and did not make me feel silly in the times that I didn’t understand something. In my time with Jan, I realised she has an amazing mix of friendliness and focus, making sure I was on track and progressing well with my motoring, and also taking the time to get to know me as a person in lessons - Which I definitely needed for the nerves!
