I wish I had read Bob’s responses to negative Google reviews before booking, as I recognise the same tone in how he spoke to me. My lessons initially went well and felt constructive. However, the day before and the day of my test, his approach changed significantly. The lessons became dominated by constant nitpicking and criticism, delivered in a way that felt belittling rather than constructive. What I found most concerning was that this continued even when I became visibly upset. Instead of adjusting his approach, the intensity increased, which made it very difficult to stay calm and focused ahead of my test. Five minutes before my test, he used the dual controls in a situation that did not feel like a safety issue, but rather to highlight a mistake. This was quite unsettling, particularly so close to the test, and affected my confidence going in. I have had several instructors previously and have never experienced this kind of approach. Regardless of whether he felt I was test-ready, the way this was handled was not supportive or professional. This review is based on my personal experience in the final lessons before my test. I passed first time with Bob and felt confident thanks to his calm, clear, and supportive teaching. Driving used to terrify me, I’d had multiple instructors before and felt hopeless - but Bob changed everything. He’s firm but kind, and knows how to bring out the best in his students. As someone with ADHD and autism, I really valued his compassionate and direct approach. Lessons felt collaborative and empowering, and I made real progress each week.
