I had a great experience learning with Matt Shurmer Driving School. Matt’s teaching methods were clear, patient, and really helped build my confidence behind the wheel. The automatic driving lessons were well structured and made learning much less stressful than I expected. Thanks to Matt, I passed and now have the freedom that driving brings. Until this time last year, I genuinely doubted whether I would ever become a driver. I had several fears and past experiences that made the thought of driving feel overwhelming. However, changes in my life gave me the motivation to finally give it a try. I knew I needed a calm, patient instructor with experience helping anxious learners, so I spent a lot of time researching and reading reviews. That's when I found Matt, whose excellent recommendations convinced me that he was exactly the instructor I was looking for. From our very first contact, Matt was approachable, friendly, and reassuring. Despite his busy schedule, he managed to fit me in much sooner than expected, and before long I began my driving journey at a pace that felt comfortable and manageable. It took around 10 months from my first lesson with Matt to the day I passed my driving test in West Wickham — on my first attempt! Throughout that time, Matt was always understanding and supportive, especially on days when I wasn't feeling my best. He was patient when my theory test was delayed due to ongoing medical treatment and was always flexible whenever I needed to rearrange lessons or book extra sessions before my test. Most importantly, Matt helped me build the confidence I never thought I would have behind the wheel. Thanks to his guidance and encouragement, I now know that I can do it. Having a driving licence will make a huge difference to my life. It will save me time, give me greater independence, and mean that I no longer have to rely entirely on public transport or my husband's availability. I can now take my little one to activities in more remote locations and have the freedom to go wherever I need to, whenever I want. I have already recommended Matt to a friend and will continue recommending him to anyone looking for automatic driving lessons in West Wickham, Bromley, especially those who may be lacking confidence or feeling hesitant about learning to drive. Recently I passed my driving test first time after learning with Matt! I chose Matt Shurmer Driving School due to many recommendations from friends in the area of Orpington and the brilliant reviews online! Matt was very patient and supportive throughout our lessons which really made me feel comfortable and at ease as I was a nervous driver to begin with! Matt’s teaching methods were amazing, making sure I understood each aspect of driving. Approaching the test date Matt was extremely supportive which calmed my nerves. Matt has been the most fantastic driving instructor - right from the beginning, he was kind, patient, and friendly. I wasn’t sure I’d ever be able to get my driving licence, after originally learning in manual a long while back and struggling a lot. This was due to a combination of factors, but mainly due to finding practical tasks like driving very difficult. However, I have just passed my automatic driving test at West Wickham, and it is all thanks to Matt. From the first day I met Matt, I knew we were going to get on brilliantly, and that he would be the instructor to help me pass. Matt is a very caring and supportive instructor who encourages you to develop not only your driving ability, but also your confidence on the road. He ended lessons by going over what I had done well, and the things I needed to work on going forward. It also helped that Matt is very easy to get along with! Matt was always very reliable; he never missed/cancelled a single lesson in all the time I was having lessons with him. I would 100% recommend Matt to anyone who wants to learn to drive. You can expect lots of laughs as well as high quality teaching and an instructor who genuinely cares about you. You will always leave lessons feeling happier than you were before the lesson! Even if you are thinking you would rather learn in manual, don’t - you should learn automatic just so you can have Matt as your instructor!! I am so glad to have met such a kind and caring person like Matt, and I have learnt so much from him. Initially I came across Matt Shurmer from a Google search when looking for "Best Driving School in Orpington area". Looking at the testimonials and having experienced the service 1st hand I'm happy to report that Google has it spot on! The service has been flawless from my 1st contact right up to and including passing my test today with 0 minors, all thanks to Kelly my instructor! The flexibility of the lesson times, days and durations are great and one of the few that i could actually make. They put me at ease and left me feeling confident and looking forward to subsequent lessons. I chose Matt Shurmer's Driving School because it had come highly recommended by a number of friends and offered automatic lessons. I was extremely nervous to start but learning to drive on an automatic really helped overcome the nerves.Despite being nervous, Matt was able to put me at ease with his calm demeanour, effective instructing and great conversations.Matt was always firm but fair. He never sugar coated when I made mistakes but he was also quick to mention when I had done well. It was a great balance between praise and understanding my own mistakes which created an incredibly productive learning environment. Learning to drive with Matt has made me enjoy driving and become a more confident driver than I thought possible.My experience and those of my friends have all been so positive that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Matt Shurmer's Driving School to anyone and everyone who wants to learn how to drive. I chose Matt shurmer as I previously learned with Ashley and wanted to continue to do so, learning to drive has been a rollercoaster of emotions, and was much better than i expected from my very first lesson, I've always been a incredibly anxious person and Ashley helped me to feel at ease, I found the teaching methods exceptional, always being encouraged to put in 110% and to do my best, and learning to have faith in myself whilst doing so, I would definitely recommend to others as it has been a enjoyable experience with an amazing instructor, I don't think anything could have been done better, it was a pleasure learning to drive with you. I was recommended Matt Shurmer's driving school by a friend as I was new to the area and needed to to refresh my driving skills after failing my test previously. When I first began lessons I found it was a more challenging area to drive around than back in my hometown Nottingham and was very apprehensive about being on such busy roads. Matt was a brilliant teacher and helped me to overcome this apprehension by being very calm at all times and clear with his instructions. I would definitly recommend Matt as an instructor for anyone learning to drive and I can now say I am confident to go out on the roads on my own. Thanks Matt!! Read Less

I decided to approach Matt Shurmer Driving School as they had great reviews and were local to my area. Neil C was my instructor and was brilliant. He was patient with me but always tried to get me to step outside my comfort zone (Ruxley roundabout was my particular nemesis!). Lessons were well-structured but relaxed and he helped to put me at ease when I was at the controls. It took me a while to work up the courage to book my test but I'm glad I finally did as I passed today (first time!) with just six minors. So thanks to Matt & Neil - I would 100% recommend them. I chose Matt Shurmer driving school because it was a well established, reliable, flexible and reasonably priced. I was very impressed on there response time. Their website is clear and informative. My instructor Matt took my previous experience into consideration and worked alongside me to help me progress further and pass my test quickly. He was very supportive throughout. The experience was better than expected! Matts teaching methods were very straightforward and easy to grasp. He was always very patient and understanding if it took me more than once to get something right. He always gave good explanations as to why we did/didnt need to do something keeping the process fun and lighthearted with some bad dad jokes along the way. I have already recommended the driving school and Matt in particular to 5 individuals who are interested in learning to drive and will continue to give credit where its due. I cant help but sing Matts praises enough and couldn't fault him and his commitment. Read Less

Neil my driving instructor has helped me to gain confidence in my driving ability as well as supporting my needs throughout. He has made it easier for me to learn maneuvers in a way in which I understand. The instructor always displays a calm manner and explains any mistakes I have made and how to correct them. After going through two tutors at different companies before finding Alex at Matt Shurmer, I thought I was destined not to drive. One had serious road rage problems swearing at bus drivers through the window, and the other called me a "slow learner" using bar and pie charts after my first lesson, great I know! However Alex my instructor at Matt Shurmer was simply amazing. She was patient, kind, sympathetic, welcoming and friendly and above all just a genuinely nice person. I went from thinking I was some sort of terrible driver to actually thinking I was quite a good one in a few lessons. I can't recommend Alex and Matt Shurmer more, and passed first time with only 4 minors! Read Less
