I started learning with Gavin as someone who had no previous driving experience. From the beginning, it was clear that his focus is on producing safe drivers. He produces detailed and clear explanations of how to tackle driving routines and the many varying road types, aided with his many folders containing extensive diagrams of various junctions, and ensured I had a clear understanding of why we do certain routines. He was adaptable to my learning style, when I couldn't quite understand something after talking it through he would demo drive and narrate his thought process which was super helpful for me. Most importantly, he offers a calm and enjoyable learning environment where I never felt judged for making mistakes and I was able to ask questions as many times as needed. Thoroughly Recommend.

Gavin is honestly a fantastic instructor and has been exceptionally helpful throughout my lessons. Whilst I can struggle with multitasking (a very useful skill when driving!), he was insanely supportive and guided me through everything in a legible manner.
I had my driving test today, and unfortunately Gav's own car was having trouble the day before the test. Had to make do with mine, of which I had driven once... We spent a few hours working on it today, making sure I was used to the functions of the car etc, and I did feel much better towards the test knowing the car better. I passed my test with 2 minor faults - a brilliant result I'm incredibly happy to have received!!
Thanks again for everything, Gavin, you truly are a legend. Best of luck with everything - the Yaris will be missing you! 😁

I highly recommend Gavin as a driving instructor. His approach is a proper driving programme rather than simply teaching students to memorise test routes. From the beginning, the focus was on developing safe, confident, and independent driving skills, with clear explanations behind every decision and manoeuvre.
We initially practised around a test centre close to our home, but when I managed to secure a last-minute cancellation at a different test centre, Gavin adapted the lessons seamlessly. The training he provided was based on solid driving principles rather than familiarity with a particular route, which meant I felt fully prepared despite the change.
As an educator myself, I particularly appreciated Gavin's teaching style. He created an environment where I felt psychologically safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and learn from them without feeling judged. His calm, patient, and supportive approach helped build both my skills and my confidence behind the wheel.
If you're looking for an instructor who teaches you how to be a genuinely safe driver for life and not just how to pass a test. I would recommend Gavin.

Gavin is a wonderful instructor. He was patient with me from the very beginning and could tell if I was ever getting overwhelmed with anything. When I made mistakes he'd take the time to pull over, talk through it with me and explain how I could correct it. As a visual learner, I very much appreciated his folders full of diagrams and aerial shots of complicated road layouts. I like how he taught me to be a defensive driver, how to plan ahead and keep everyone safe on the road, rather than just teaching me to pass a test. I loved his sense of humour throughout our lessons, and he always had the perfect balance of being lighthearted with me, but also knew when to put on his serious face.
I passed this week! While I'm delighted with the result, I am also going to really miss my time with Gavin. Thank you so much!

After passing my test 8 years ago and not having stepped into the driver's seat since, I needed some refresher lessons in order to regain my confidence behind the wheel. Gavin was the perfect solution for this!
There were many things which never perfectly clicked with me 8 years ago (even having passed just fine!), particularly with my mentality on approaching junctions, roundabouts and the concept of parking effectively as a whole.
As an anxious individual, the humour, support and effective guidance Gavin provided was exactly what I needed. Only compliments!
I wish I had more time with him, but alas I live abroad and was over on holiday during the period I received these lessons. Even with such a busy schedule, he accommodated my non-standard requirements with grace.
These refresher lessons have allowed me to feel far more confident when driving, alongside mitigating the absolute chaos an inexperienced driver can be if not having driven for almost a decade!
I can only give my highest recommendation to those in the area (& further!) who are looking for a top-notch instructor. Cheers Gavin!

Gavin is a brilliant instructor. Even though I have had on and off lessons over several years due to different circumstances that had befallen me I have always got back on the road really quickly under Gavin's wing with confidence and many smiles and laughs :)
I passed first time due to the hours that Gavin put in for me and even sacrificed some of his own time to help me prepare for my test. He helped me crack my bad habits and get a good drive for test day!
Highly recommended, will get you on the road in no time with all the confidence and skills you need to pass. AND will make you laugh and have a good time whilst doing it :)

The best instructor ever !! Will never tell you that he won’t take you to test as long as you think you are confident and ready. Very supportive, and he is very friendly, his methods of teaching you will not find anywhere I promise. he is specialists in commentary driving which helped me a lot because I was very nurvous driver. I am glad I found him and passed. You wanna pass ? Gavin is the best option for you guys :) good luck

It's been a couple of weeks since passing my driving test, since then I've got my own car and have been able to drive around unassisted without any problems. This is because when learning with Gavin, I was able to build up my driving ability, awareness and overall confidence. In his lessons, you're always learning about something, which turns out to be rather helpful during both the theory and practical. Through Gavin being my instructor, I was able to pass with only one minor. I'd recommend Gavin to anyone wanting to learn how to drive, and wanting to drive well. He's also got a good taste in music, because there's nothing better than learning how to drive whilst listening to Pink Floyd.

Gavin House is a truly wonderful teacher. Every lesson with Gavin was enjoyable. I learnt with Gavin over about 6 months and passed first time! I had lessons with a previous instructor before that was detrimental and Gavin worked with me to unlearn bad habits and taught me to be a good driver, not to just to pass the test.
I’m quite an anxious and indecisive person but he was never pushy, he encouraged me and help me gain the confidence in my skills as a driver, even though I was convinced I’d never pass or be confident on my own. I struggle with dyspraxia and he was patient and never got bored of my silly mistakes. We worked together to make ways to learn that I could understand and cope with.
He’s a fun guy to be around, he’s never visibly irritated or angry. He was always just a happy, jolly guy that really knows what he’s doing and genuinely enjoys teaching! It’s great to be taught by someone who wants you to learn and believes you can and really knows his stuff! I can’t recommend him enough! Thanks Gav!

I haven’t had a single lesson with Gav that I didn’t enjoy or improve from. Never late, never pushy, never miserable and never fails to make you laugh. Always patient and willing to go the extra mile to accommodate lesson times even when I had to relocate but still chose to complete my lessons with Gav whenever I could - wasn’t even worth searching for a new instructor!
Passed first time in less than 4 months, even after insisting I would never drive over 5mph!!

I started learning with Gavin as someone who had no previous driving experience. From the beginning, it was clear that his focus is on producing safe drivers. The best instructor ever !! Will never tell you that he won’t take you to test as long as you think you are confident and ready.
