I was anxious about learning how to drive, especially starting at a later age than most people but Paul Rolfe was amazing! Debbie Cooke at DLIW is fantastic. I went to look through her profile after my younger brother recommended her. She taught him when she was training to be an instructor. When I read other reviews and also the write ups on her Facebook page about people that had passed, I felt she was the right instructor for me- particularly as an older learner in my mid thirties. I had taken lessons over a decade previously, with an instructor I just never got on too well with but had committed by buying a package of lessons with him so felt stuck. I worked with him until I was "test ready" and unfortunately failed my first driving test. I never received any encouragement from him to keep going and so I just gave up. 10+ years later, I finally started to think about driving again- and with a baby on the way I knew it would make life easier. I contacted Debbie and explained I was very anxious about it, and may find out it wasn't for me after all, but she was willing to work with me. Within just my first lesson, she was so encouraging, explaining to me that I knew how to drive, I just needed to remember what to do. Her constant encouragement and faith in me helped me and within just a few lessons I started to relax and look forward to the next lesson. I even went out and bought a car so I could practice in between lessons as I enjoyed driving now. All in all, 12 lessons later and I feel ready to take the test. Although not booked until October 2026, on the 14th July at about 7pm I found a cancellation slot, and it was for the following morning. Knowing that Debbie felt I was ready made a huge difference and allowed me to make a huge, impulsive (for me) decision to take that slot. I'm so glad I did, because I passed. I still have 8 weeks until my baby is due and I am so relieved I no longer have this worry about getting out and about with a baby and my older son. I updated my insurance straight away and have been unstoppable since. The freedom it has given me is liberating and I love driving. I cannot recommend Paul Buckland highly enough, especially if you are someone who suffers from anxiety. Starting my lessons was incredibly daunting, but Paul’s calm, patient, and reassuring approach completely changed the experience for me. He creates a comfortable, zero-pressure environment in the car and never loses his patience, which helped my confidence grow with every single lesson.
