My partner was recommended John Field by a work colleague who spoke highly of him, so we decided to give him a try.
John was quick to respond initially and offered a two-hour assessment lesson for £80, which was to evaluate my partner’s driving ability and plan further lessons. On the day of the lesson, John arrived around 15 minutes late without any apology. While this wasn’t a great start, we gave him the benefit of the doubt.
The lesson itself went well, John appeared patient, enthusiastic, and explained things clearly. My partner came away feeling positive and hopeful that she’d finally found a good instructor to help her progress to a full licence.
Unfortunately, that’s where the positives ended.
After the lesson, my partner followed up to arrange another session. John took a week to reply, and when he did, his availability didn’t quite match hers. She responded with alternative dates, after which John went completely silent for around three and a half weeks. When he eventually replied, apologising for the delay, further attempts to book another lesson were ignored entirely.
My partner tried calling him twice with no answer. I also attempted to contact him via calls, messages, and voicemails, again, no response. Despite this, we’ve since seen him actively working and driving around the area, which makes the complete lack of communication even more disappointing.
John was very quick to take £80 for the initial lesson but made no effort to follow up or continue teaching, instead choosing to ignore messages and calls altogether. Whatever the reason, basic communication with paying customers should be expected.
Based on our experience, I can only give the minimum rating. A real shame, as the first lesson showed promise, but reliability and communication matter just as much as teaching ability. Read Less
