Emerald School of Motoring was established in 1999 by Chris Holmes. I'm an Approved Driving Instructor with over 15 years' of experience. I have taught over 300 learner drivers how to drive a manual car with a pass rate above the local average.

Chris is an experienced, calm, and patient driving instructor with a natural teaching style, a great sense of humour, and a real talent for building confidence. He stands out as someone who genuinely helps you understand and retain what you learn.
Learning to drive with him was a genuinely positive experience, and every lesson felt relaxed and comfortable.
Before I started, I had anxiety about driving, especially around trucks and large vehicles, but Chris helped me work through that step by step. My confidence grew with each lesson.
His teaching is clear, structured, and easy to follow, and I always felt well prepared for my test. I passed on my first attempt and feel absolutely over the moon 🎉
I would highly recommend Chris to anyone looking for a supportive and reliable instructor.

We cannot recommend Chris Holmes at Emerald School of Motoring highly enough. Our son, who has special needs, hadn’t had a lesson for over a year after the disappointment of failing his theory test a couple of times. Once he did pass that, Chris was recommended to us by a friend; and we are so grateful he was.
From day one, Chris’s warm personality, patience and professionalism shone through. He’s a fantastic communicator and spent time really getting to know our son and how he learns best. Over the course of four months, Chris carefully built up his skills and confidence, always calm, always encouraging, and always positive.
The result? Our son passed his driving test first time, with no driver errors at all. What really sets Chris apart is his genuine kindness and the way he naturally adapts to his students’ individual needs. It never felt forced, it’s just who he is.
A truly lovely guy and an outstanding driving instructor. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Chris, especially to anyone whose child has additional needs.

Chris has been such an amazing driving instructor over the past several months and I cannot recommend him enough. I was previously learning manual and made the decision that I'd prefer to do automatic lessons. That was when my mum and my sister recommended me Chris as he had helped both of them pass. From the first lesson, I was already comfortable with him and his teaching method and felt much more confident with my driving. He is patient and very friendly, and explains your strengths and weaknesses in a clear, concise manner. I'm pleased to say that Chris has helped me pass my driving test first attempt and this wouldn't have been achieved without his efforts. Thank you for everything, Chris, and I wish you all the very best.

Used this driving instructor and passed my test first time... had an absolute brilliant instructor who was patient and made learning to drive fun and relaxed... I was a nervous learner but Chris helped me feel relaxed and got me through my test with confidence. I would recommend to anyone :)
