Mean-spirited and impatient.
I had previously learned to drive as a teenager, and was looking to reacquaint myself and pick up where I'd left off before taking my test. I chose The Automatic Driving School because I was looking to pass quickly, so that I could start using an automatic car which I already owned. I'd describe myself as being confident with driving, prior to booking, and was only really wanting a refresher. I'd unfortunately block booked ten lessons with her, so decided to see them through. In hindsight I wish that I hadn't.
Lindsey left me feeling rather shaken and anxious, doubting my own abilities and also doubting myself on a personal level. This is how she'd left me feeling as a confident and experienced 25 year old, so I'd hate to think of how a first time learner would feel. Thankfully I switched to a different instructor who was just lovely, and had the perfect temperament for an instructor. Some examples of her behaviour are as follows. Lindsey would:
- Regularly turn up 15 minutes late to our agreed meeting point, strictly leaving just a 45 minute lesson, but still charge for a full hour.
- Spend the first 10 minutes of most lessons messing around on her ipad, with social media or iPlayer, whilst I had to sit and wait at the steering wheel.
- Swear at other drivers, make gestures at them or just holler out the window at them.
- Shout at me when I made a mistake, particularly when trying to parallel park for the first time. She called me stupid a couple of times and shouted that I'd not listened or followed a badly drawn picture she'd scribbled on the back of a tiny flier.
- Grab the steering wheel mid drive to make the car swerve towards pedestrians/drivers who she thought shouldn't have done something; to scare them. This left me incredibly shaken.
- Tell me that I'd done something, and berate me for it, even when I hadn't. This was very confusing and had me doubting my sanity.
I absolutely dreaded driving lesson days, and was very anxious when getting in to a car. Read Less
