He is happy to provide guidance on areas to focus on between lessons, and very accommodating when trying to arrange lessons ahead of the test. Steve ensures that you, not only practise the various test routes, but can familiarise yourself with routes local to home, making it a more ‘real’ personal experience. He strongly values the importance of, not simply focusing on the test itself, but on becoming a competent and safe driver, able to adapt and respond in all situations. Steve is absolutely amazing and I feel very lucky to have had him as my teacher. I started learning with Steve after having lessons with a previous teacher in Brighton and my gut was telling me to find someone else. Steve couldn’t be more patient and calm if he tried (the opposite to my previous teacher), he is so great at reassuring you and giving you the confidence you need to be on the road. It is clear with him as well that he doesn’t just try and give you tips on how to pass the test, but instead genuinely cares about you being a good and most importantly safe driver for after you pass as well. Steve is funny and clearly interested in people and wants the best for them. I surprised myself with how much I enjoyed my lessons, there wasn’t ever any dread, I always wanted to go each week and every time I got out the car I was happier than when I got in. It took me a few times to pass, and Steve was always helping me with any last min cancellation tests I got, he would also be flexible with my rota that changed every week, as well as dropping me off at home / work when it suited me. His lessons are also flexible and he would allow me to choose what to work on each time. I passed today and I still can’t believe it, when I got in the car with Steve I struggled so much with steering and for a long time struggled with parking and my mind wandering whilst driving, but thanks to Steve I have the skills now to help me with this, and I passed today with only 3 minors and now I am a very confident driver! He challenges you to do your best at all times and is in no way condescending at all, but rather takes his time to explain things and guide you through it with patience and care. I originally called Black and White driving school, because of the reviews. ( which I liked very much) Just moved from the USA, I needed UK license. What a great choice I made... Steve from day one, was very accommodating and understanding. Steve adjusted his teaching style to my own personal needs and personality.He is very much intuned to his pupils individual needs and wants. I’m not going to lie, that it came naturally to me, I had to loose bad driving habits from the States and adjust to UK rules.( like driving manual and on the opposite side of road) Not once Steve made me feel inadequate, or less then. if anything he tried real hard to understand and teach me the right way. It took few times for me to pass. But when I finally passed, I think Steve was more excited than me :) On the drive back home from the test ( which I passed), I recall thinking ... how am I going to do this without Steve in the car ( my security blanket) But than I remembered his voice telling me... I would highly recommend Steve at Black and White Driving School to anyone wishing to learn to drive. Not only is he a brilliant instructor, with great teaching skills and techniques, but also a genuinely lovely guy who is easy to talk to and get along with. I’d highly recommend Steve to any learner. He’s a brilliant teacher, and fantastic company. I was nervous about learning, having left it until well into my 30s. I just passed my driving test yesterday with only one minor after learning with Steve. I switched over to Steve not long ago and I'm so glad that I did. Not only is he a lovely guy with a calm and professional manner, he's a brilliant instructor and picked up on my bad habits and what I needed to improve on quickly and armed me with the skills and confidence to not just pass my test but to enjoy driving and to do it well and safely. Steve is a great instructor, patient and really personable. He places as much importance on learning the practicalities of how to drive as he does on learning how to enjoy it. And key to this is building up your confidence along with your ability, so that you become a safe, calm, and happy driver. I began lessons with Steve as an older, nervous driver with some unhealthy learned responses to stress, with fear about driving that had only grown over the years. Steve was very patient and persistent and worked with me at changing my habits and thoughts about getting behind the wheel of a car. I passed my test recently a couple of days before my son's 18th birthday but felt like a new grown-up myself. I passed my driving test first time, with 5 minors, after just 4 months learning with Steve. This a guy who really understands how to teach. Every lesson is pitched to be slightly more difficult than the last so that they feel challenging, but also rewarding as you never feel out of your depth. Steve knows the importance of perfect practice and precision. He instills in you the best possible driving techniques and with his excellent guidance he ensures you keep them up, until they become second nature. I have left his tutelage confident that I am a good and safe driver. All that aside Steve is just a really genuinely nice and patient person. I started learning with Steve last October after an 8 year gap since my last test attempt. I initially had very little confidence in myself and my ability however Steve completely turned this around. He is fantastically patient, he doesn't mind you doing 10 parallel parks until you feel happy. He reduced my anxieties and has made me in to a safe and confident driver. He has real skills in making you feel calm and never pushes you to do anything you are not ready for. Steve has been flexible around my job and degree which I really appreciate.
