Everyone was a joy to work with and they all genuinely want you to succeed. Gunny Patrick was my first interaction with their staff and I knew it was the right school for me. I looked at a few other options in the area but I really liked what this school had to offer. There are so many pros to attending the Phoenix Truck Driving Institute! Too many to list! Out of the many class options, I chose the 5:30a-2p time slot which was perfect to dodge traffic and still have time in my day to do other things. It can be a little overwhelming in the beginning but you definitely get out what you put in. Study that pre-trip! I canβt tell you how much I learned in such a short period! Another added bonus was having trucking companies scheduled to stop by so you could get info and ask questions to prospective employers. Big shout out to everyone there. Very nice and great people. Anyone complaining about this place probably didn't pass. It's not easy, and you shouldn't expect it to be. Your hands will get dirty, and your skills will be tested. The instructors can't make miracles happen. Some people just shouldn't get their licenses. But that's a good thing you're driving a beast on the road. Takes time and money. Tim, you're the man!
They are very fast-paced. If you dont know, Manual or haven't experienced the backing of trailers in the past. Dont come to this school. The instructors are there to help you win. They're not there to teach you. You have to do that yourself. They definitely help you do that. You'll run into the issue of them having too many students for two instructors. You'll probably practice one time in a day or twice if you're lucky. If you're on budget with your finances, I recommend taking the full-time course with this school. But if not, give it more time. You can complete it in 4 weeks if you're experienced, but if not, you'll find yourself there for 5-7 weeks. Great place to get your CDL for experienced people. (Manual shifting and Trailer control.) Update the school has been improving and been helpful working with me on concerns. I will review my review in a few weeks
Where to start first of all the instructors are good people , but it is clear they are not treated well at the school by the owners. I have seen three instructors walk off the job because of the lack of organization. There can be at times a ratio of 20-40 students per 1 instructor making it very difficult for actual hands on time with the maneuvers. This training is a skill set which requires repeated maneuvers to learn proven facts. Next lightning at night is a major issue the trees and trucks block what little light there is and it is obvious that this has been an issue before since they have broken portable lights sitting in the range. The cones and lines on the range are black and very difficult to see during the day and impossible at night. After filling several complaints and never received and reply to my concerns I reported it to Maricopa workforce they too have received several complaints about this school. We were told observing will teach you. Not when you are staring for 8 hours a day at others whom also have no idea what they are doing and only have 10 minutes out of 8 hours a day to have hands on practice. As for the lights Jason's response was well in the real world you will have to drive at night. Really Jason !!!!!!! We are in a learning environment we need to be able to see what we need to learn so when we do get out into the real world we know how to do certain things. When we are told back up till the tires near the line but we can't see a line wth. And stop at the black dirty cone. This is a accident waiting to happen. The school focuses more on new students every Monday instead of cutting down the ratio of students to instructors because of one thing $$$$$. Once you are in and they have the $$$ your concerns do not matter. Several students are not happy. We now have to pay additional money for adequate training at another school that offers one on one. My recommendation is CDL trucking on 24th Ave. Read Less

I didn't like the teaching style. The first 3 days we literally sat in a classroom for 8 hours highlighting the answers that were on the permit test. By the way, they dont tell you that when you're taking the test, there are questions that were not found in the study material. To find those answers, you have to go other websites that help you get ready for the test. I saw there is a lot of favoritism between the instructors and students. Females got a lot of the male instructors attention and there were also teachers pets. They would get special treatment. But if you weren't liked, you were treated badly and talked about not only by the students, but also the instructors. There is no structure. Its all shooting from the hip and here is an example. One instructor said that he takes the first 4 students available to drive on the road. I was in school for 3 weeks before I took a truck on the road but there were students who were in week one and they got to drive because they arrived earlier than others. There were days we only had one instructor watching over 2-3 trucks that students were using. Β By the way, the trucks are garbage. The transmissions are so worn out that they dont shift properly. There should be more instructors keeping students safe and instructing them. The instructors told us that they are not allowed to instruct us, only make sure we are safe. Each instructor teaches their own way, there is no one way that the school teaches. You'll learn with one instructor and the next day you are with another and he tells you that you are wrong. There is no standard that every instructor will teach. I thought this was ridiculous what I will tell you next. The first two hours of school (5:30-7:30 am) we were not allowed to drive the trucks because it was too dark. I have actually learned more from students than the instructors. After weeks, I felt like I didn't know anything. I was so confused. I signed up to learn how to drive a truck, not just pass a test. I felt the school was disorganized and had no real curriculum. I saw a student be alienated because this student was struggling. This student was struggling because of the disorganized training. Don't waste your time or money coming here. VETERANS BEWARE! Apply yourselves when coming to this school. Listen to the instructors when they offer advice. Thereβs a wealth of knowledge at this school. They give you the tools for your tool belt to be a great truck driver. The staff is a great bunch of human beings. Some advice is expect to be outside so sunscreen, long sleeves, a good water source carrier, a device for your book and papers like a ticket holder or three ring binder or backpack. Study your green Az cdl book before you test for your permit. Also your pre-trip is in the green book. Study that as well. Before hitting the road when you drive read the rules of driving in the green book. Everything is in the green book. Hazards are explained and rules of the roadway. Good luck to future students. First of all I attended this school with the understanding that I would be done in 2weeks considering I was going 7days a week. The course was supposed to be 120hrs. I did 3weeks almost 200hrs. This school has no structure for the instructors or the students I was given a packet to learn my pre-trip inspection and air brakes. No guidance from the instructors that are new to teaching them selves. Towards the end of my stay I did notice some changes but seem to be short lived. The only lie they don't tell you is that you will get your cdl whether they cheat you through it or you actually pass because of another student took time to help you and teach you. This school is not one to go to. Do your homework before you commit to a school that will not commit to you. Read Less

I walked away after 12 hours of my life being wasted that wish I could get back. They may have good instructors, but you need to find one first. I could not believe they do not even introduce themselves. The students did not have a clue because they were given no instruction. The director (who no longer works there that sold me on this turd of a school) begged for me to give them a couple more weeks to get things straightened out. I wish I would of walked out of their open house and never looked back, but I didn't. Shame on me, but now that I know, I will never say anything good about Phoenix Truck Driving Institute. Read Less

I attended class here in order to earn my CDL, and went on to receive it in March 2017. Since then I have worked for a major carrier for the last 8 months. Diego & Mike are both top notch instructiors that help you comprehend everything you need to know. I spent most of my time learning to drive under the supervision of Diego and can safely say that he's the best teacher I've encountered in my time attending college and my time in service. Diego's hand on and friendly approach puts you at ease which is extremely important when your first learning. Mike is excellent with overall knowledge as well as with helping learning hard skills in the yard. I didn't have a chance to drive with Mike so I'm unable to comment on his teaching but am sure that it is exceptional as well. The reason why Im giving Phoenix Truck Driving Institute 3 stars instead of 5 is due to issues with on site management treating students with a lack of overall class and making students feel as if their rushed through the schooling process. Ask as much as Questions you can before you take action.
I spoke with one of the ladies working there I think her name is Linda I asked her a question about what will happen if you go over the 160 hours of training? I ask this question because someone says on the review they charged him about $700 because he went over the hours a little more than the 160 hours (The training is 160 hours long). then the answer I get from her was "I don't know because that doesn't happen since I started working here". A school doesn't have an answer for basic questions is kind of suspicious. because this kind of thing supposed to be part of the curriculum. they should clearly state how much they will charge you if you go over the specified training hours in the agreement.
I can't speak about the actual training since I didn't attend there. But I feel like I should stay away from them. Nowadays its hard to find credible school. sad! Read Less

Before hitting the road when you drive read the rules of driving in the green book. Everything is in the green book. Hazards are explained and rules of the roadway. Good luck to future students. Thank you to the staff at this school. Read Less

Read Less

This place is not worth your money, buyer beware. There is no structure whatsoever. Do not give them any money because you will be extremely disappointed.

Nowadays its hard to find credible school. sad! Read Less

At first it was very intimidating to be very honest with everyone after the third day I was ready to throw in the towel but with instructor Dave's positive reinforcement and with Joe and Linda's teachings I passed my CDL driving portion and am know on my way to driving I read some other post here about these people not being the real deal and believe me that is far from the truth they don't promise to turn you into a professional they promise to teach you to pass the test and be a safe driver the rest is on you. Thanks Phoenix truck driving institute π Read Less

I went to CDL Truck School Inc which felt like they only wanted me for my money after nearly $700 in I decided check out Phoenix truck driving institute. I could not be happier the instructors actually care about you not like the other school which label you as just a number. I received training in what I needed help on an sure enough I passed. I got to experience both schools but they are completely different in staff and experience you can tell the difference. I would highly recommend this school to anyone family orientated environment you cant go wrong with that. Read Less
