By the time you get to the point of being assigned a driving instructor I highly recommend not going for one named Mike. The negative reviews about his behavior, in my opinion, are true.
My sister has just finished a lesson with him and she told me that his way of teaching was very critical which he delivered in a non, constructive way. She was a complete beginner with no driving experience and, instead of being shown the way, she got her faults pointed out repeatedly. She tried to tell him that she was new and had to learn, but his reply was very rude and at one point he said, "Don't speak over me, " which means he completely shut her down.
A driving instructor should be aware that it is normal for new students to make mistakes and that they need to be given patience, clear explanations and a step, by, step guide. However, my sister was put in a situation to drive almost immediately without first getting a proper explanation or any support, which made her feel stressed and not confident. This kind of approach is neither an effective one nor a professional one.
It took my sister quite some time to recover emotionally from the upsetting experience and later on she had a meltdown. This kind of reaction is very uncommon for her which, in fact, confirms that the whole incident was wrong. Driving lessons should be given in a respectful and positive atmosphere which was unfortunately not the case here. Read Less
