I started taking lessons through CAS as a complete beginner at 34, with a lot of anxiety around driving. I had never really driven before, so this was a huge step for me. I ended up working almost entirely with Anthony, and want to give him a special shoutout because he genuinely helped me get to the point where I could pass my road test. Anthony is a very experienced instructor, and you can tell he really cares about teaching people to drive safely and confidently. He pushed me in ways that I actually needed, especially when my nerves were getting the best of me, and he helped me go from feeling terrified to feeling capable behind the wheel. There were times when I needed things explained in a different way (I’m a very “talk me through it step-by-step” kind of learner) and I appreciated that even when we had moments of frustration, we always worked through it. He was patient with me overall, and once we found the learning style that clicked, everything really came together. By the end, we had a great rhythm, and I honestly felt supported throughout the process. If you’re a total beginner or an anxious adult learner, I’d absolutely recommend this school, and especially working with Anthony. I took all of my lessons with Anthony who was an amazing teacher and really knows how to build confidence. He teaches good habits from the beginning in order for you to be a safe driver for life rather than just to pass the test. He was patient and encouraging. He kept detailed notes from each lesson so he knows what to focus on during the following lesson. I would also highly recommend booking a lesson just before taking the test as that really helps to build up your confidence and sharing last minute tips. 10/10 would recommend Anthony to all friends and family in DC! I failed the first 3rd Party road test but I was extremely impressed by the corrections handed out by Mr Charles Smith and right there I booked another appointment with him for another road test and I ensured I worked to straighten out the areas where he raised concerns at first. I took a total of 14 hours of driving classes and road prep with Ms. Elaine Butler and she's amazing! I had practically zero driving experience and she's managed to get me ready in record time (in a span of a few weeks!) for my drivers test, which I passed btw! Yay! Elaine is a professional, always on time, very patient, and I appreciate that she makes you very comfortable behind the wheel. She teaches you everything you need to know to pass the test and be a great driver. She makes it her goal to get you that license as fast as you can, but she will also be the first one to tell you if you're not ready. I plan to take a few more classes with her to perfect my driving and parallel parking, which wasn't included in the test! CAS is amazing because of Elaine Butler and I would totally recommend her for folks like me who are starting from scratch! Finally, book early, use their app (GenBook I think), and reserve all the classes including a road test prep in advance since their schedule fills up very fast - and yes book Elaine! Read Less

I feel comfortable writing this review since I have passed my driving test with a different driving school here in Austin after leaving DC. My experience with Mr. Charles as my driving instructor was extremely negative. Throughout my six hours of lessons driving with him he would tell me I was spoiled, arrogant, and childish. At the time, I thought he was just being playful but now knowing what a good driving instructor is (at a school here in Austin) I can look back and honestly say his commentary was hurtful, unprofessional and in some instances, quite rude. One instance that really stands out to me was my last lesson with Charles. I was on Rhode Island ave and changing lanes and he immediately grabbed my wheel and jerked the car back into my original lane. A driver in a minivan then rolled down his window and yelled "you're going to fail your test." It was very jarring. Charles just laughed. I was in tears as this was the night before my test and my nerves were really getting to me.I did not pass the next day. Mr. Charles was supposed to meet me at the testing center and said that we could do a couple loops (I hadn't paid for this so I wasn't expecting it; but he said he would meet me numerous times the night before) and when he didn't show up it made me even more nervous. The lessons were expensive and judging from the reviews it seems like their other instructors are good teachers. I recall the online appointment system to be very easy to use; so that's a plus. Elaine was my driving instructor, and with two months of weekend driving (sometimes 1 hour, sometimes 2 hours), I was well prepared to ace the skills test. She's very patient, provides great advice while you're driving, and she'll tell you up-front whether you're ready to take the exam. I've been putting off getting my license for literally 5 years. Part of it has been procrastination..part of it fear. Well I finally bit the bullet and just passed my road test, and its definitely because of the instructors at CAS! Mr. Cheeks and Ms.Butler in particular are the best!! They took the fear out of driving for me, and are casual, friendly but still professional. I have driven on the expressway before with  others and literally almost had a panic attack! Ms. Butler had me on the expressway and I almost forgot that I wasn't driving on the streets! Just got my license today through CAS and couldn't be happier! My instructor (an older man with glasses; I'm sorry I don't remember his name) was prompt in arriving. He helped me check in at the DMV office and then we went out to my car. He asked me to get in and turn on my left and then right turn signal. He then got in the car and filled out some paperwork. We went out of the parking lot and made a right, went through the traffic circle and made a left (remember that the left lane on Brentwood after the traffic circle is a turn lane! He might not specifically tell you to turn). We then took a ride through the neighborhood (I'm sorry that I don't remember the specific route). We ended up back on Brentwood (never went on Rhode Island ave). Note: he might not tell you if you pass. If you go in and he gives you a form to fill out, you're golden. He also might give you a ton of constructive criticism. Don't worry; he did that with me and I only got 5 points off.Good luck!! PM me if you have any questions!! Read Less

Andre Cheeks, driving instructor, is the man. He recently taught my little sister to drive, and i was very impressed in many ways.First, my sister is kind of a nervous wreck when it comes to things like being responsible for a hunk of metal that ways thousands of pounds careening through populated areas. It's just the sort of pressure she normally can't handle very well. Within a day or two of her starting lessons with Andre, there was a VERY clear difference in her confidence behind the wheel. Within a day or two more, there was a marked increase in her competence as well. Objectively, it was easy to see that he made her a better driver in a very short amount of time. What impresses me even more, though, was how friendly and personable he was.It got to a point where after a week or two, my sister wanted me to bring my dog outside so Andre could meet her (because they've spoken so much about her, it seems!). They spent hours talking about tv and movies and music, and I think they even made each other mixtapes by the time they were done. Heck, my sister even liked him so much that she cross-stitched him a pillow with our local NFL team's logo on it. Being good at your job is one thing - and Andre is clearly great teaching people how to drive. But being an awesome person while doing it and making sure everyone involved is having a great time? I didn't have much experience and knowledge behind the wheel before working with C.A.S Driving School. I've met Ms Butler and worked with her for two months ( once a week lessons) to grasp all I needed to learn. She was professional, kind, and gave vivid details as you are driving. When it comes to errors she'll correct you rapidly and she is open to acknowledge your progression as the weeks go on. Scheduling an appointment online was simple as pie and the cost was reasonable for me. I highly recommend C.A.S. You'll get superior training that shows. I am proud to write the first review. My very first time driving was with Mr. Smith. When I came up to the car he was already in the passenger seat. Scared the mess out of me. I thought we was going to do some parking lot driving since it was my first time. Not So!. I got behind the wheel and my lesson begin. They pick you up and drop you off. Mr. Smith is more generous with the drop offs. Just let him know where you want to end up when you get in the car. I took about 10 hours of lessons, over about two months because it takes so long to get an appointment with the DC DMV. I took lessons with both Mr. Smith and Ms. Elaine. They have different styles but they will recognize and correct your errors. I got the same instructions from them both, but its seems more natural coming from Ms. Elaine (idk why). If you're just beginning Mr. Smith is the way to go. He tends to be more detailed. If you're a little comfortable behind the wheel Ms. Elaine may be the person for you. She's more relaxed and casual. Or it could be that the first couple times I went out was with Mr. Smith and I needed the extra guidance (idk lol).Anyway they know everyone at the DMV. They make sure you're extremely comfortable with the DMV parking lot and the possible routes  for the road test (Mr. Smith used to give the test for 20 years). Although I was extremely nervous (just my personally when I have to perform)  taking the test, I PASSED WITH FLYING COLORS! I recommend having them pick you up and drive around before your test. It helps!When I first started the driving lessons they was a little late to a few appointments. But that improved over time. It really doesn't matter which person you take the lessons from (Mr. Smith or Ms. Elaine) you will get quality instruction.
