I'm not gonna lie. If you have a different driving school in your area, go there. The 30 hour classroom driving classes are super boring, useless in my opinion. It was some random grandpa just reading off of slides. So that's that. Now the in-car driving lessons were also something else. My first one was with a dude named Michael, who was lowkey pretty chill! He taught me the basics. Thanks to him, I built confidence to actually get on the road. He was super chill which calmed my nerves. Then, I went back for my parking lesson with a dude named Ben. He was alright. Could be better. Mind you, I've been driving with my family for like months now. Whenever we're together, I drive. Like I can get you from point A to point B and you could sleep the whole time if you wanted. But damn. My last lesson was so annoying. I had this lady named Helen. She took me to some neighborhood road and started crashing out bc I wasn't looking over my shoulder enough. Like if I'm driving straight and don't need to change my lane or turn, why the hell do you expect me to be looking behind me? I'm gonna look at the car in front of me. She also was upset that I took my hands off the wheel at red lights. Which I understand but not sure why that was a big deal. After like 5 minutes of driving, she makes me stop and says that if I took my test in two weeks (which is when I told her I scheduled it for) I would fail. She spends 20 minutes in the parked car just straight up GRILLING me. Like bro I thought I'd never see the light of day again. Then she takes me on the highway, and she's just so irritated. Like damn bruh chill out. She's too harsh. Again, we're all beginners. A little kindness goes a long way. Please don't drive with Helen. She's going to destroy your confidence. She's just so condescending for no reason. I felt like the worst driver to ever touch a wheel after I left. I'm sorry but this last lesson at Greg's just really made me hate it. If anyone in charge is reading this, you gotta do something about this lady. After reading these reviews, I truly realized it wasn't just me and I had a feeling Read Less

I just had my first lesson with a Helen Castillo. After enduring it, I immediately moved my next two to a different Greg’s location in hopes of the teacher there having basic empathy. She was so incredibly rude. Not only could I not understand a word she was saying, she was wearing a black mask and sunglasses, so I had no way of seeing her facial expressions. When we exited the Greg’s building and started walking towards the car, I was not even an ounce sure of what to do (again, did not understand a word). She told me to open the car door and get in, and when I did, I started to adjust the seat since that is what you are supposed to do. She got mad at me for doing and told me to stop and that I’m good with how the seat is when I literally could not see an inch of the road in front of me. Then, even though I informed her that I only had about 15 hours done with my parents, she continually acted as if it’s standard for me to be absolutely perfect on the road, and since I was not, she continuously put me down, passive aggressively called me “honey,” and treated me as if I was completely incompetent, not just on the road. She had me pull over when we were driving residential, not once, but twice, just to tell me that my stopping is horrible and I am a bad, inexperienced driver (that’s why I’m here?!). When we were sitting at a red light, she raised her voice to tell me to keep looking at the cars next to me and not on the road in front of me, and when I had obeyed her, I didn’t realize that the light changed to green and she immediately got agitated and told me to press on the brake in an extremely condescending manner. When the lesson was miraculously over, we went into the building and she asked me “how do you think you did on this scale of 1-4?” Once again almost crying I told her “maybe a 2?” she agreed and put a 2 on every single thing she was supposedly checking me on, even the ones I arguably did good at. Never coming back to this location again. Read Less

I had by far the worst experience of my life at Greg’s Driving School. The instructors I was assigned Helen Castillo and Luis Vargas were completely unprofessional, rude, and outright abusive. My first lesson with Luis Vargas was a joke. He spent the lesson talking on his phone instead of doing his job, then had the nerve to scold me for not having enough driving hours which is absolutely ridiculous considering I was there to learn how to drive in the first place. His behavior was careless, dismissive, and showed zero interest in actually teaching. My second lesson with Helen Castillo, a lady who was wearing a black face mask was even worse. She used offensive language, constantly put me down, and made me feel completely worthless. When I asked how I could improve, instead of doing her job as an instructor, she told me I had “no chance” of getting my driver’s license and that I could not improve at all. That is not teaching—that is bullying. I left the lesson in tears and felt completely hopeless afterward. This kind of behavior is unacceptable, unprofessional, and damaging, especially coming from people who are supposed to help students learn. I will be taking further action to ensure that no one else is treated this way. Judging by other reviews, I am clearly not the only person who has been mistreated, particularly by Helen Castillo. On top of that, my friend also had a terrible experience with Luis Vargas, proving this is a pattern, not a one-time issue. DO NOT EVER GO HERE!!! This place tolerates disrespectful instructors who bully students who are paying $400, instead of teaching them. Read Less

Michael Frazier was my in car driving instructor and for most of the lesson, he was distracted by frequently looking at his phone instead of observing my driving more to see if there is something I need to improve on and occasionally checking his phone (I couldn't tell of course on how often he was paying attention on how well I was driving because I obviously need to be paying attention at traffic/cars/pedestrians) he was also a little bit impatient during the lesson as well. He did yell at me once for a mistake I believe. I get that it can get boring having to take student drivers out to complete their driving every week but c'mon making sure your student is not going to make more mistakes in the future is much better and safer then having to deal with more drivers who got their licenses not too long ago, making unsafe mistakes on the road in the future. Also, he didn't provide any tips or constructive criticism to improve my driving after I made a mistake at all even if he did it wasn't good feedback (to me at least) but I do admit I did make a few bad mistakes and a few minor mistakes because of his condescending attitude he had towards me made me feel stupid which it did lead to me to feel nervous or worried. By the end of the lesson, he had offered no guidance on how I could fix the mistakes I had made but he did tell me something helpful which was a driver didn't going to the correct lane after I made some turn or whatever it was and that I wasn't wrong for going to a certain lane. So overall Michael wasn't that bad of an instructor and he shortened the scheduled 2-hour lesson to only 1 hour and 45 minutes, without explanation. Hopefully when I come back for a driving lesson it will be better and more informative if I ever do I guess. Only reason I picked this location was because of the availability of lessons and reviews I’ve read. The car was also almost out of gas and the wind shield had a lot of water streaks for some reason. Daniel Wheeler was my online driving school instructor and he wasn't that that bad he just failed to keep the class engaged enough where there weren't people falling asleep. Greg's Driving School overall needs to ensure its instructors have the skills to effectively teach students regardless of how many hours they have practiced. Hiring more attentive, patient, and constructive teachers would be great toward improving the overall quality of their program. Read Less

Hi everyone.  Just a quick note on Greg's Driving School.  We went to Greg's because they offered the driving class at Quince Orchard HS.  Unfortunately, what they didn't tell us was that there would be no "In Car" available at QOHS.  As you've probably guessed, this is a problem. When I telephoned in early June, I was told that they would work on scheduling a drive time at QO.  When I called back on August 15th, I was informed that they could not arrange any "In Car" from QO for over a month.  No apology for no call back.  No notice, no accommodation, no recourse, no call back.  Terrible customer service.  Big thumbs down. I absolutely loved Greg's (as much as you can love a mandatory driver's ed course). I took a summer session at one of the local high schools and found the instructors to be thoughtful, engaging, and disciplined. Office organization was strong as well.I'm out of high school, so I think I was more aware of the instructors' pedagogy than the others in my class. We had two instructors - I forget the name of the second, but the first was Mr. Young. He was strict but very, very good (his cold calling and high level of classroom discipline kept the students awake and accountable, which is hard to do with high school students in the summer!). The second instructor was more laid-back but still disciplined - he had a lot of real-life anecdotes that kept us engaged and the material relevant. I think both instructors did a great job of emphasizing safe driving and encouraging information retention in a way that felt real to high school students. I had imagined driver's ed as a very dry, necessary evil but was glad that the classroom portion was much more bearable (and dare I say, productive) than that.Greg's was also very reasonably priced (around $300 for a two-week classroom course and six hours of behind-the-wheel instruction). I would recommend having driven quite a bit before doing the behind-the-wheel sessions, as you will get more mileage (pun intended) from your lessons that way. I probably had around 40 hours of practice before my sessions, which meant I could work more on technique/form.Regarding office organization, Sara Gammon is absolutely wonderful and will schedule things, answer questions, etc. very quickly. I had no issues scheduling the classroom or the behind-the-wheel sessions. I realize that your experience in driver's ed will vary largely on the instructors you get, but I had a pleasant experience with Greg's and hope you luck out as well! Read Less

Maybe everyone was having a bad day in the earlier reviews here, but my experience with Greg's has been wonderfully easy. The MVA is infamous for not making things clear for us all, but this school really went out of their way to help me with the entire process! The office staff are all awesome and have a lot of patience with scheduling, especially with my hectic schedule. I definitely recommend this place above other schools in the area. There's a bit of wait for drive times, but that comes with all aspects of obtaining a license in Maryland. The smaller schools in the area have waiting lists and the MVA road test times are months out, so it all worked out! Read Less

I went to the Rockville location as an adult learner for additional driving lessons. I've been in accidents as a passenger before and have a lot of anxiety about operating a vehicle. I tried to find a driving school that had offers specifically for adult drivers, and eventually found this one. The reviews were good, so I figured I'd give it a try.The administrative office staff are excellent. When I originally wanted to buy their package deal of seven lessons and a car rental for the test, they asked me how many hours I actually needed and determined that it was a better deal for me to take five sessions. I appreciated that - they wanted me to get what I needed and not waste my money.  They did everything in their power to make the sessions work with my schedule. Unfortunately, this is where the good part of the review ends. The actual sessions, however, left much to be desired. One instructor fell asleep while I was driving near the end of our session. Another one, upon seeing me looking at my phone to check the time before entering the vehicle or even starting the session, used profanity and raised his voice at my regarding my phone usage. It's one thing to tell me to turn my phone off if I were getting in the car, headphones on, but when I'm just getting to the location and I haven't even gotten near the vehicle? No thanks - not the tone anyone wants when going to a place that provides a service for which they paid. And it's inappropriate. In my last session, I was informed that I had been given outdated and incorrect information about the driving test and driving expectations by the instructors (turning on red lights, how to hold the steering wheel), in addition to being sworn at by the instructor. While I was glad to have gotten the correct information (I hope), it really put a damper on my confidence in the competence of the instructors. While I got the behind-the-wheel experience, I felt like I left my sessions there did more harm than good. I got conflicting information from instructors, which when coupled with the overall negative attitudes and insults of the instructors, left me feeling like I had no clue what to do behind the wheel. This is what I paid to receive, and I don't feel I got it.I ended up contacting their administrative offices and canceling all my other sessions. Thankfully, I did get a refund. I would not recommend this business to others, and I personally will be looking elsewhere. Read Less

Read Less

I schedule my in car session and the instructors I had for each session were helpful and polite...I remember one was named Enrique I can't remember the other one.....I took my test at the MVA with a Greg's car after paying for the hour practice and the car and I passed on the first try YEA....they redirect me to the Gaithersburg location one and the instructor there he was very polite and helped me out, he made sure I had it down pack prior to the test....Thanks a lot to Greg's Driving School both Rockville and Gaithersburg location....

Read Less

I do not recommend this driving school to anyone. My son took the driver's ed course here during Spring Break this year, and had been trying to make appointments for the actual driving lesson for the past TWO months.  These people are non-responsive, and had  to reschedule his driving lesson a couple of times.  Finally, my son got all his appointments in, showed up for his first driving lesson then realized the appointment specialist did not confirm the schedule with the instructor.  People here are non-responsive and irresponsible after they take your money.
