I signed up my son for the Drives Education package, and when he was ready to take the driving lessons, I cannot find any class for the next month and a half.
When I called the office, I was told to check the portal multiple times in the day, and that's the only way we can get a spot. I have been checking for multiple days in a row and multiple times in a day and still nothing opened. While signing up for the program, they said we should be able to get a few classes during the summer time frame.
Extremely disappointed and the staff was very rude on the phone. Read Less

I enrolled my daughter in a driving package at Chelmsford Auto School, but unfortunately we were unable to complete the program because it was nearly impossible to secure in-car lesson appointments.
The biggest issue was the scheduling process. Available lesson slots were extremely limited, and the staff offered no meaningful assistance. When I asked how to book an in-car lesson, I was simply told to keep checking the website repeatedly—which I had already done many times. They would not provide any information about when new slots were released or offer any suggestions on how to improve our chances of getting an appointment.
What made the experience even more frustrating was the attitude of the staff. They were consistently rude and dismissive on the phone, making me feel as though I was wasting their time by asking reasonable questions.
My daughter also had a disappointing experience with the instructors. She felt that they provided very little actual instruction and often spent much of the lesson looking at their phones rather than actively teaching.
Overall, this was a very frustrating and disappointing experience. If I had known how difficult it would be to schedule lessons and how unhelpful the staff and instructors would be, I would have chosen a different driving school. Read Less

I have used Chelmsford Auto for all 3 of my kids. I always recommended this place, always so easy to deal with and they always felt comfortable with the driving instructors. Today I took my daughter for her license road test and the RMV Examiner that went with her had her wait in the car before the test as he smoked a cigarette outside of the car. Then rushed her through her test, when she was taught by the instructors to take her time. My daughter admitted she did mess up her parallel parking and she gets failing her for that, but the guy checked off that she did half the paper wrong! I was really surprised because she has been driving my car faithfully and to put down inaccurate information was wrong. He was also mean mugging her while she was driving. The whole experience for her was awful with that man. I'm hoping the next time, they at least make her comfortable behind the wheel. They are nervous enough Read Less

Initially, everything started off well and things progressed smoothly; however, now that my son has only a few driving lessons left before taking his test and obtaining his permanent license, it has become simply impossible to book any further lessons. The last lesson scheduled back in November was pushed all the way to March, and now, when I check the calendar, I see absolutely no availability for the next two months. A process that began in June has dragged on for ten months—with no end in sight—since there are no practical lessons available. And when I questioned them about this, their only advice was to keep checking for availability on a daily basis. In other words, if you are looking to help your child get their driver's license, you are better off just waiting until they turn 18 and saving your money. Read Less

My son has had 3 driving lessons canceled on him. One was a sick call (understandable) but the other two were no shows with no phone calls or anything. The last no show was on the day of my son’s grandmother’s wake service and the woman on the phone was completely disrespectful to my husband in regards to that. He asked to have a manager call him back and has left a few messages. Tomorrow will mark a week since we’ve asked to speak w a manager and we haven’t heard from anyone yet. It’s very unfortunate because we’ve already paid ahead of time and my son is obviously upset about being blow off for these road lessons. I will say the instructors have thankfully been wonderful at each lesson and i hate the fact that this review feels like the only way we will get a response from anyone Read Less

I was a bit concerned when I read the negative reviews. My grandson took the instructional classes at his high school and needed to complete the driving segment of the program. He started his driving lessons in June. We had no issues in booking his lessons. I called several times with questions and reached them without any problem. Each time the person was extremely courteous and helpful and I asked a lot of questions and they patiently answered every one. We had one issue with an instructor that was handled quickly, professionally and the issue was resolved to our satisfaction. Driving with my grandson so he could get the road experience between lessons with the school allowed me to see all the rules and regulations he has been taught with the school. His test with the registry went well and he is now driving. I want to thank Al and Richie who patiently taught him the things he needs to know to drive safely and respectfully. Thanks to Greg who I spoke with on the phone who was courteous and guided me through this process and what we needed to do. Read Less

Do not go here for your road test unless you are a student there. I took a road test twice there and failed both times. I am using my wife's account to write this. I am an immigrant and felt personally judged for this by the woman who was testing me. Both times I took the exam there were younger girls in front of me who failed at answering basic questions like the proper hand signals. The girl that went in front of me this time failed parallel parking, asked to do it again, and was given this, and proceeded to pass. I did everything correctly except forget to once look over my shoulder for incoming traffic and 'used my mirrors too much' but successfully did each move she asked me to do. When I went only a few inches over the line and asked for a do over I was not given one. I feel the tests were not fair whatsoever. Why the girl was given more chances and failed at knowing what the hand signals are and still passed is beyond me. If you are an immigrant I strongly recommend not going here as I feel personally targeted by this woman who clearly had something against me. When I mentioned this to the person in the office they appears surprised that I didn't pass either. But simply said 'I'm sorry it didn't work out.' I feel very defeated by this whole process and cannot believe this is the kind of business done at this school. Read Less

I'm a bit of a late bloomer when it comes to driving. This is because I grew up in the New York City suburbs and lived within walking distance to a train station. I always learned to rely on others for rides, so I didn't bother to get my license when I was a teenager. Before I moved to MA, I knew that a driver's license might come in handy someday, so I might as well get it while I was still living with my parents. So there I went, taking driving lessons and earning my license before heading out of state. Then came the day, several years after living in MA and learning to walk everywhere, that I did need that license. I called Chelmsford Auto School and set up a refresher driving lesson. My instructor was John, who was no nonsense. He definitely had a tough love style, which is something that I can appreciate, and told it like it was. But he remained respectful and kept me on course, literally. I did see his style with a teenage girl; he was definitely softer and was relating to her more in a very nice way.I was incredibly pleased with our work together during my first lesson that I signed up for a second one and requested John. By the end of the second lesson, I was a great deal more comfortable practicing some typical runs, as I started to learn the area. He did a great job of slaying my fears and ensuring that I was feeling better about what I was doing.Since then, I've driven quite a bit and I'm grateful for the reasonable lessons ($80 per 90 minutes) that got me back on the road. They definitely have the lowest prices around and my instructor was patient, cool, and knew exactly how to adapt to my needs. Read Less
