I am submitting this review and formal complaint regarding the road test conducted by examiner Joseph L. for my 16-year-old daughter.
My family has previously used this testing company multiple times. Both my wife and I, as well as my son, completed our road tests here and were evaluated by Joe, who was professional, respectful, clear in his instructions, and fair in his assessments. Our experiences with him reflected the high standards we expected from this company.
Unfortunately, our experience with Joseph L. was completely different.
As a parent accompanying my daughter during today's examination, I observed the entire test. The parking portion was completed successfully with no faults. During the driving portion, I did not observe any major safety violations or significant driving errors that would reasonably justify a failing score.
At the conclusion of the test, Joseph L. informed us that my daughter had failed. The explanations provided included taking approximately 10 seconds longer than expected before proceeding at one point, not looking left a second time while crossing railroad tracks, and entering the highway at approximately 55 mph while still within the merge lane. While these may be areas for improvement, they do not appear to justify the substantial deduction of 28 points that resulted in a failing score.
What was equally concerning was the examiner's communication. His instructions were often unclear, and his accent and communication style made it difficult at times to understand precisely what was being requested. On one occasion during the drive, I genuinely believed he had instructed my daughter to turn right when he had apparently intended left. Clear communication is critical during a driving examination, especially when evaluating a young and understandably nervous driver.
Additionally, I found Joseph L.'s demeanor throughout the process to be unnecessarily dismissive and unprofessional. After more than 35 years of driving experience and years spent teaching multiple young drivers—including my own children and several family members—I have never encountered an examiner whose attitude made both the student and parent feel so uncomfortable and discouraged.
I respectfully request that management review this examination, including any available dashcam footage, scoring documentation, and examiner notes. Given the significant discrepancy between the minor issues discussed and the final score, I believe an independent review is warranted.
I would also appreciate being informed of the formal complaint process and whether similar concerns have been raised regarding this examiner. If there is a pattern of complaints involving communication, professionalism, or scoring consistency, corrective action should be considered to ensure fair and objective evaluations for future applicants.
My intention is not to challenge legitimate testing standards but to ensure that every applicant receives a fair, professional, and transparent evaluation process. Read Less
