READ REVIEWS BEFORE ENROLLING! I wish I would've read reviews before signing on with Safeway. So disappointing. Minnetonka community ed contracts with Safeway, which we thought would be handy for our high schooler to do his behind-the-wheel sessions during school days. Now I'm very sorry the district has collaborated with such a disreputable business. The self-paced classroom course was fine, although you can't get back into the course to access information once you've completed it. They lock you out. Don't make the mistake of thinking they will guide you through the process! All communication from Safeway goes through your teen, who is the account holder. This is far from ideal, especially if it's your first driver and/or you don't know EXACTLY how the process should go. The website also has very little useful information and is poorly organized. It took forever to get the blue card so we could schedule our teen's permit test. It took a very confusing phone call to find out the reason for the delay. It turns out that MN requires you to financially enroll in behind-the-wheel before they will issue your blue card (ridiculous!). While that's not the school's fault, they didn't bother to explain this or remind us to register for BTW. Our teen finished his 50 hours of practice driving before we looked into BTW, thinking we could knock those out in a few weeks. HUUUUUUGE mistake! Safeway never told us he was supposed to start right away and would be required to wait at least 30 days between sessions. I tried calling to see if they would waive this rule, but the man on the phone was terrifically unsympathetic and dismissive. Now we have to decide if we want to wait 3–5 months for our teen to get licensed, or pay possibly 3x more to get BTW lessons somewhere else. I've read reviews now and see that there are claims of verbal abuse by instructors, rude employees, and general disregard for customer service. How is this one of the main choices for driver training in the Twin Cities?!? This company needs a major overhaul. Read Less

So completely disappointed and feel taken advantage of. We used safeway as a more "affordable" option to do the online drivers Ed classroom course. ($100) Upon picking up the blue card at the office the woman told us $180 down for bluecard and behind the wheel +90 due at session 2 and another $90 at session 3. Went to schedule session 2 and they wanted $100 instead on 90 only to reschedule that session due to no instructor availability. They pushed it out another month only to cancel in less than 48 hours in advance and locking us out of out portal stating that we did not qualify for pay as you go since we did online. We'll then why did they tell us that was how it worked and why did they let is schedule a second session? Now we have no choice but to pay the remaining balance and because they NEVER have any behind the wheel slots available we will have to pay $50 to extend the contract. This bring our grand total for drivers training to $510.RIDICULOUS! As a struggling single mother I was looking for a more affordable way to go to get my kid driving. No accountability from safeway, they won't take ownership in misinforming us. Won't honor the second session they allowed us to schedule and charged me $100 to do so instead of 90. I cant wait to be done with them!!! FYI, Main St driving school is only $380 dollars total for class room+behind the wheel Look thoroughly through ALL your options. Dont let Safeway take advantage of you too. Read Less

What a joke the school & staff are. Yesterday I went to pick up a book for my son and literally no one greeted me when walking in the door. The lady just looked at me and continued to do what she was doing. I stood there for 5 minutes before someone from back stood up to do something else and seen me standing there. Then, the system allowed him to schedule a permit test without the lessons being completed. However he completed the lessons. The system is showing the lessons not complete. Then, when I asked for a refund of the $10 permit fee I was told that its not refundable. While I understand if we miss the appointment or cancel its not refundable but therapy that he's not even eligible to take thetest and they won't refund is ridiculous! Especially for $490 for the course! Customer service sucks at this place!!! Read Less

SAFEWAY DOESN’T CARE ABOUT YOU OR YOUR KID! I thought going to Safeway was going to be a great idea and my daughter would have the same positive experience I had with Safeway when I was learning to drive. But our experience has been a nightmare. During the classes, the instructor was rude, kicked one kid out for opening a bag of chips during class, and kicked my daughter out for picking her pencil up off the floor. They said the rules were they were supposed to act like they were driving, and those two actions would’ve caused them to crash. So they were kicked out of class. SAFEWAY DOESN’T CARE ABOUT YOU OR YOUR KID. Fast forward to after the classes. It was time to schedule behind the wheel lessons. Do not waste your time trying to go online and schedule them yourself. The paperwork miss leads you to believe you can schedule the lessons online, when, in reality, you’ll only be successful if you call the facility. SAFEWAY DOESN’T CARE ABOUT YOU OR YOUR KID! for months and months we were checking online waiting for lessons to open. After months of frustration, I finally called. We scheduled the behind the wheel lessons. But they make you wait 30 days between each lesson. Lo and behold they had to charge me another $50 because we had waited so long. WE HAD BEEN ONLINE LOOKING THIS WHOLE TIME! And if they would have let me schedule the lessons closer, I wouldn’t have gone over the time limit and had to be charged another $50. but Safeway doesn’t care. So far so good 👍. My teen completed the distance learning classes and I was able to easedrop enough to feel comfortable with the lesson content. The instructor had east coast vibes, which was cool with me. My teen just passed the written test on the first try and we have been out practicing and logging hours. Now, the first behind the wheel lesson is tonight, scheduling was easy and there is always someone helpful when I have to call in with questions or whatever. I have had no problems at all whatsoever and this is all going very smoothly for my 16 y.o. Read Less

4/28/18 about 4:15 PM. Just encountered one of your drivers with a student at Kellogg and Jackson. Driver had a red light and I had the right of way in the crosswalk. Instructor allowed the driver to make a turn on red without stopping and with total disregard to me being in the crosswalk. Despite signaling for the driver to stop, she and the instructor made no attempt to stop whatsoever. They made a return pass a few minutes later at 5th and Jackson. When I pointed out to the instructor I was in the crosswalk and had right of way, his response - rather than apologize was “call me at the office”. I don’t blame the student driver - she’s a student. But, the instructor has no business teaching. Read Less
