Great experience with Hickory Driving School! Our daughter's instructor, Denise, was wonderful! Super accommodating and took the time to hear my thoughts on important points I felt would be good to work on. Even though they were all part of her regular instruction already, she did take time to focus a little extra on them. Hickory has been around forever and I see the cars all over town. I heard good things so I scheduled my son’s drivers ed with them. Very smooth operation! My son loved the driver. So I ultimately think it depends on the instructor you get. Originally I did play some phone tag back and forth with the woman who takes the calls/sets things up. And the original instructor I was supposed to have became unavailable so I was set up with this AMAZING woman. I can not say enough good things about her.! She literally taught me so much, I knew how to drive before but was not at all good before she taught me. It was comforting knowing she was a mom and literally off the bat told me her learning methods were not yelling. She was so cool, calm and collect. Even after my 6hrs were up I would text her and ask her questions about driving like what to do etc. Today I passed my drivers test! I now know I needed to practice, hold my head high, and stay calm! STAY AWAY, we paid for the entire package for my son, the 6 hours of instruction and the refresh and the driving test itself, First they sent an instructor that didn't know what he was doing, kept getting lost, and could even remember my sons name. Then when he was supposed to take the test, they got the dates wrong (even though they scheduled it), didn't show up (MY SON MISSED HIS TEST DATE), never called and when they finally called back they claimed they didn't have a driver available.Read Less

My son had a responsible and relatible instructor who helped him learn the basics before I took over. We then used Hickory again to take him to the road test which also went great. My son wasn't nervous and he passed the first time. We will use them again for my other son this year.Read Less

Now the guy from Hickory driving school is harassing me they are crazy nut jobs at that school don't go there it is LIVING HELL TRUST ME I KNOW, I used to go through ABC driving school for the 6 hour course, however, when my road test came up an instructor from Hickory driving school took me. Hickory's methods were much more confusing than ABC. I felt pressured and there was so much to remember. He pointed out reasons how I can fail the test, which made me nervous. I got so nervous. Soon we were running late, and I felt so pressured. I had failed the test and it was a living nightmare of a day for me. Here is an email I sent them: Dear Hickory, I write to you as a very dissatisfied customer who wasted over $200 that I might as well of just threw out the window. I used Hickory to take my road test, I highly regret using this driving school for anything. I feel the methods were to confusing and I didn't like the service. I used to go through ABC driving school, their methods were much simpler and useful. The instructor I had from Hickory, pointed out to many ways I can fail, which built up nervous feelings in me. I was supposed to get 2 full hours of practice before the road test. That didn't feel like 2 hours to me, I highly feel I didn't get what I paid for. My instructor was running a little late so we had to rush right to DMV after the supposed "2 hour" practice. It felt more like 45 minute practice. To make matters worse, I felt he was to harsh when he was supposed to be teaching me in an encouraging manner. And if that wasn't bad enough, I failed the road test. Instead of looking at the cone way in the back by the head rest I was looking at the cone by the windshield, then backed in to much and hit a cone, now if I would have used the basic method maybe I would have passed. If I would have used the method where you simply turn the wheel right, back in then left and center in, maybe then I would have did it, but because I went through your driving school I attempted to do it the confusing weird way and failed. Then when we got home the instructor drove off with my permit, I tried waving him down but he kept going. My grandmother informed me I should call him, so I did, and he said "why didn't you call me I would have turned around". He then left it in the mail box for me. In conclusion, I just want to say THANK YOU for wasting over $200 when we are a low class family and struggle to afford anything, and THANK YOU for confusing me even more about parking, and THANK YOU for wasting my time and WASTING a try I had a passing the road test.
