Great school. I went from 0 driving experience to successfully passing the road test on the first try. My instructors David and Mario were great during both the driving lessons and to prepare specifically for the road test. Mario was super professional, on time, and had great tips towards successfully passing the road test. He picked me up at the subway stop an hour before my appointment, we drove around and went over the important things to pay attention to during the test, and then waited in line until it was my turn. Total and utter SCAM!  Or at the very least, an incredibly mismanaged business.  DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.  Nobody showed up to the 5-hour pre-licensing course that I had booked and paid for, so after various phone calls over the next half hour with an extremely unhelpful and unsympathetic lady, I ended up having to leave!  Services were not rendered, and I expect a full refund.DETAILS:I booked the 5-hour pre-licensing course, scheduled for 5.30pm today at 369 Lexington Ave.  I paid the $50 fee in advance, online.  So, 10 mins before the class, I showed up at the location.  Another class attendee also showed up around the same time.  We were right outside the door - it said 369 on it - but it didn't have any New York Auto School branding.  Rather, it had some cafe, bar and kitchen sign on it.  But it looked derelict, with dirty stairs going straight up to a door, and a NYC City sign on it, as though it had been shut down.After waiting a few mins, the other attendee called number in the email (212) 677-2573.  We explained where we were and that the door was locked.  The lady told us that the instructor would be there shortly.After another 10 mins, waiting in the pouring rain on the sidewalk and getting increasingly restless, I called the lady back.  Over the next half hour we each called the lady multiple times and were given a plethora of excuses:- The instructor isn't there yet, he's on his way.- The door isn't locked, go up.  Push.  (Yes, we tried this.  Definitely locked.)- The instructor is there, he's upstairs, go up!- Wait, are you really at 369 Lexington Ave?  Between 40th and 41st St?  (Yes, I took a photo, and it said 369 on the door!)- The instructor is there, but he can't come down because he recently had surgery and can't walk properly...  (Oh please, we paid for this!)- The instructor is there and busy teaching.  He can't come and get you.  (Oh really, who is he teaching, and how did they get in, and when did they arrive?  We were early!)Eventually, the lady stopped responding.  I left one voicemail warning that I would leave in 5 mins and report them, and another final voicemail as I was leaving to inform them how angry I was and that I would definitely be reporting them.I expect a full refund.  DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE. I was initially dreading sitting in a classroom for five hours for a lecture on safe driving, but our teacher somehow managed to keep me engaged the whole time! He was funny and answered all of our questions patiently and without judgement. It was obvious that he really wanted us to learn how to be safe and responsible drivers, and i came away feeling more prepared for the road test and my future driving endeavours. Today I sat- and passed- my driving test first time around! I am delighted and it is thanks to the New York auto school and the great staff. I had several of the instructors and found they were all on time, dedicated to the safety and confidence of their students and they really helped me understand driving in the USA (I am from the UK) Tommy was particularly awesome for showing me how to parallel park and for giving me lots of confidence in my ability to pass the test :) thank you! This school must be a joke. I scheduled the 5-hr course over the phone in their Manhattan location. The lady said the class would be on a Sunday. I even asked if she was sure it was Sunday and not Saturday, and she said yes, Sunday, Aug. 30th, 9am. They even called me on Saturday afternoon to confirm for next day. So I got up early on my Sunday just to get there and THERE WAS NOBODY THERE. I waited until 9:15, called, knocked on the door, everything. Don't waste your time with this place. Read Less

This place does what it says on the tin! I took the 5 hour course from 5:30-9:30 (apparently it's a 4 hour course now) with these guys. It's 50 bucks in cash and the class starts promptly. It's great for busy NYers who don't want to take the time to do this on a weekend but can spare an evening after work. The instructor David kept us laughing and interested and I felt very prepared for my driving test. It's a small room in an indistinct building by Grand Central. I'd recommend it. This place is awful!!! I took the 5-hour class with them and it was very bad. To begin with, the premises (a sad looking room) are dirty and messy. The biggest problem is that the class is longer than at most other schools. The teacher spent an inordinate amount of time explaining irrelevant facts, such as the origins of the 5-hour class. It took 4 hours to complete the class instead of the usual 3 hours or less at other schools. So don't waste your money and go to another school where they teach you what you need to know instead of useless and futile trivia. Read Less

Nobody really wants to have to sit though 5 hours of state mandated crud, but there's no way around it if you need a NY driving license.This was a good prelicensing course.  It started promptly, the location just next to Grand Central was great.  The instructor was pretty funny and was definitely making the best of a class of 15 that would be spending 5 hours together. TERRIBLE!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I booked to attend the MV-278 Course 2 weeks in advance. I confirmed the booking on the day. Due to a subway delay I arrived 3 minutes late, that's 180 seconds and was met by an extremely rude and unpleasant woman who told me that the class was full. The class had not even started. Since I had a booking confirmation the only way that the class could have been full is if it was overbooked. Very unprofessional and not at all understanding. I will be using "Grand Prix Driving School" instead. Read Less
