A judge in my county wanted my son to take this class as part of his sentence for being not very smart behind the wheel and making very bad decisions! I am so glad she did, I wish he had taken this course before making bad decisions , I grew up here in Iredell County NC I remember the sad story of Jon and James Herbert when it happened watching it on the local news, but I didn’t know about this amazing program that was born out of the tragedy! I suppose unless you have young teenagers you really don’t pay much attention to things until you do ! This should be taught in every driver’s education course in all the schools, before we as society allow them on the road to drive, to give them and everyone else all the protection we possibly can. I appreciate Mr Doug Herbert’s dedication to this and Thank him from the bottom of my heart, they even taught me things, From the second we arrived we were greeted with kindness and compassion, it was extremely well organized and thought out, and everyone here from start to finish was so energetic and full of motivation to teach these young adults the importance of safe driving and how to get the confidence behind the wheel, they even included the parents so the young adults could pick on us ! Haha just kidding really we drove too!!!! Great program I opened up the website five minutes after getting there and have donated money every month since, what’s worth more than hopefully saving a life! My husband and I attended with our daughter in Kansas City 8/19/17. Very professional well organized program. Every teen and adult should take this. The experience was exactly what I read about on Facebook and website. Our daughter gained confidence in her ability to brake hard, swerve, correct and control skids. The distracted driving awareness part will also stick with her! Thank you! She said the instructor messed with so much stuff in the car to distract her she got mad, ...which he pointed out how easy it was to lose the 100% focus needed to drive. ( Thank you to the young man that spoke today. Not a dry eye in the house when you spoke about the accident that killed your two best friends. You said you were the driver and your bad choices directly caused their deaths. My daughter told us on the way home you spoke outside with some of the teens, you told them what your bad choice was and the legal consequences. Your presence today was unexpected but impacted many especially our daughter, she cried when she spoke of you. Attended the class with my daughter Sophia on Sunday August 13tg at Gateway Raceway outside St. Louis. Can't begin to impress how beneficial the class was for her. The best thing I have ever done for my kids' driving hands down. The Raleigh course and instructors were extraordinary, I learned several things to improve my own driving, and both my kids (17 and 16) received more than 3 hours in the car with a professional driver and walked away energized and with a new confidence. BRAKES offers an amazing program that helps make teens better drivers to make our roads safer for them and everybody. I drove a long ways many times just so my three kids would have the opportunity to learn from the incredible instructors involved with this program. I can't recommend it highly enough. They begin with a truly enlightening video that grabs their attention and immediately makes them see the importance of safe driving skills. After that, the kids get into the veh...icles provided by BRAKES. The behind-the-wheel training is invaluable and the opportunity to drive the skid cars, obstacle courses and speed/control tests with professional drivers is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I had to drag all three of my kids to the class but afterwards, they were very glad they went. Not only did they learn a ton, they had a great time. Doug Herbert and his staff provide such a valuable service and they are fantastic at doing it. They truly have hearts for giving and are doing this for all the right reasons. My son and I attended the training session in Elizabethtown, NJ, last weekend. I thought it was a really good experience for him. It was a rainy day, which turned out to be a plus. They had great classroom instruction that really hammered home the point that you need to be responsible and treat the road like everyone is out to get you. The length of the class time was just right, not too much, and they quickly got the kids in the cars and got them to work. The skid exerc...ise and the emergency braking were great. I think the most important thing is that those kids know what to do now without having to think if they find themselves in an emergency situation. It's up to me to make sure he keeps everything he learned in mind. It was good for the parents too. I learned a few things myself. Frankly, I was surprised how many of the adults had never experienced ABS braking themselves. I would highly recommend you get your son or daughter into this training if they are getting or have recently gotten their license. It could save their life and/or their friends lives. I have to say this is the best program for young drivers and parents. The opportunity for a young person to experience a spin, a sudden stop, accident avoidance..and more - in a safe environment with an instructor at their side is invaluable. Add to that the fact that the instructors have such an obvious passion for instilling habits and information to both the students and the parents that you can't help but engage in the learning experience. Took Brynn (my 17 year old) to the Sunday afternoon session in Central Florida and it was excellent. I wish I had taken my two older daughters when they were learning to drive. I learned a ton myself including how to eliminate the "blind spot" while driving with proper side mirror positioning and the need for proper sitting in modern vehicles due to air bags....the demonstration was disturbing, but that's the point, to alert oneself to the realities of how the modern safety devices like anti-lock brakes and air bags work. It was great from beginning to end! I really thought as a parent I would just be sitting waiting on my kid to finish, but they involve the parents just as much and it was a fun and eye opening learning experience.. I wish I had known about this program with my older 2 kids. When over I asked my daughter how was it? Her reply: it was FUN! And then lead into all the things she learned and even better she commented on how it was to be a passenger with the other kids attempting to run the courses.. Wonderful organization! My daughter and I truly enjoyed the event. I learned quite a bit, myself, from seating position, hand position on the steering wheel (and confirming what I've long taught re: positioning of side view mirrors to remove the "blindspot". My daughter has a greater appreciation now for the power of a vehicle (even a compact car) and that she has the ability to control the car much more capably now. I was glad to hear of the organization's plans to expand in 2018 to cover more states and I hope this growth continues to be able to cover larger cities multiple times throughout the year. I attended the BRAKES Teen Advanced Driving School with my daughter at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. I was completely blown away by the mission of the group which is to make teen driving safe. The skills the teens and their parents learned including people like me who thought they knew everything was invaluable. This program should be mandatory for every new teen driver in the country. BRAKES- I wanted to share with you how my daughter used the skills she learned at the driving class she attended. My daughter took the driving class a few months after she received her driving license. She enjoyed the class and we talked about it as a family. It has been several years since she attended. My daughter is 19 years old now and was driving a car on the Interstate. Her front tire blew. She said she remembered what the instructors at BRAKES had said about “not jerking the wheel”. She said she went straight and slowed the car down. She got the car off the road and called for assistance. She got the tire off herself but forgot some of her Dad’s instructions. This program should be MANDATED for every young driver. It was a wonderful experience for my son. The staff was great, the instructors were clear and unambiguous about the safety needed to be a responsible driving. It was not only lecture (the smallest part of the class) but HANDS ON WITH TRAINED PROFESSIONALS from the drag racing community. The backstory of how BRAKES came into existence is pure heartbreak, but has given birth to a tool every young driver must and should have as they go forward out on the roads. Read Less
