During classes, Walter talked about his personal life ~75% of class time. Since Walter was talking about himself, there was minimal feedback. Consequently, I thought my driving was generally fine. Later on, I took one class with Anna, who was thorough with driving feedback.
I was supposed to have both my practice and real test with Walter. However, the practice test was last minute substituted with someone else. With various instructors, I was caught off guard as each was confused or unexpected why I didn’t know certain things. For example, slightly different guidance on parallel parking, hand signals, powering on the car, etc.
During the actual test, I was deducted on multiple sections, a few of which seemed unfair. For example, in my five classes, I never checked my blind spots or mirrors when turning right, but Walter had never corrected me (Anna mentioned when I did so next to a proper bike lane). This was worth 6 points on the test. When I was reversing, I was deducted points for not looking back. But when I was looking back, the instructor suggested me to look at the side mirror, as the car was going up the curb. I followed instructions and was deducted points. Another example was going 35mph on a 40mph, even though 1) there wasn’t a speed limit sign immediately, and 2) we were then driving next to a construction zone. I matched 40mph soon after we left the construction zone.
I feel like I didn’t receive the proper driving education during class, given the amount of money I paid. And it all felt confusing and unclear.
Customer service replied to my feedback saying that practice tests use different routes and instructors have different styles. That really doesn’t address any of my concerns. I was given the option for a $30 discount on a single class, which is barely anything compared to the amount I’ve already spent.
Overall, the quality of instruction with Walter was poor, the practice/driving test experience was confusing, and customer service solutions were unsatisfactory to my concerns.
For anyone looking to actually learn driving and receive a consistent experience, I’d highly suggest putting your money elsewhere. Read Less
