spent $600 to take drivers ed. my teacher was extremely rude and I found out that after my session he was fired for not doing his job well. there website has horrible user interface and everytime I tried to call to schedule a test they tell me to do it online. they also deactivated my account while I was away for a semester and I had to spend hours trying to reach them over phone and email to get my account reactivated. I took drivers ed nearly TWO YEARS ago and I still haven't been able to take my test. as well as that the building also looks like it's never been cleaned and the receptionist is super rude. I recommend literally any other drive school over this one.

Reception staff, which is practically a collective of zero, is never in the office and when she is, she’s incredibly unhelpful and doesnt return messages. The classes were fine and I liked my instructor, as for the driving instructor though, he was dangerous. Constantly grabbing the wheel out of no where and then letting go when there was no need to touch the wheel in the first place, gives directions for a turn or parking demonstration about 30 feet before, and obviously doesnt understand how to handle a student with adhd. Incredibly annoying passenger to be with since he gave instructions to me after he made an error. The location of this school is awful, passing sex workers and being harrassed by deranged homeless people isnt what I want to deal with when coming to school. Im going under an alias, an fyi for the staff.

I took the skill test and the instructor was really professional. The test was the same as the you tube WA DMV videos. He was really clear about what we're considered deductions. And after the test I got feed back on how I could improve as a driver.

I would go here to take your written test, but not the driving test. The receptionist was helpful and professional. The driving instructor was not. And, NO!!, I will not turn right on red, when I feel...
I would go here to take your written test, but not the driving test. The receptionist was helpful and professional. The driving instructor was not. And, NO!!, I will not turn right on red, when I feel that it's not safe. That should be my choice, and I should not be deducted points for it. He said I didn't check my mirrors and look over my shoulder when changing lanes or turning, but I did. He would tell me to take a left turn 10 feet from the actual turn, and then deduct points for not turning on my turn signal fast enough. He got really upset and raised his voice to me when I needed him to repeat instructions. The instructor I had needs to get over himself. I feel like they failed me so I would enroll in their driving school. I hope the instructor reads this, and realizes who he is, because he needs to tone down his voice and not be so aggressive, because it makes for a real uncomfortable experience, especially since I'm sure most of the drivers are already nervous taking the test. Talking down to people does not help them, it just pisses them off.

My teeanger recently completed this course. Parents and teen were very satisfied with the experience and the outcome. My other kids will definitely enroll here and I highly recommend Shield to anyon...
My teeanger recently completed this course. Parents and teen were very satisfied with the experience and the outcome. My other kids will definitely enroll here and I highly recommend Shield to anyone who asks. These folks are clear in their communication, no nonsense in their class management and helpful to us and our child. Driving is serious business and these guys treat it that way.

Likely the worst experience I have had with any business in Seattle. Unresponsive customer service (use an internet search to locate the owners), disengaged and unsafe instruction, located in the heart of Seattle's Red Light District. If you have a teen with an IEP/504/or any diagnosis, go elsewhere. My child was mocked by staff, labeled and endured name calling and shaming. We eventually received a partial refund after months of battle, including a complaint with the Attorney General's office. Research driving schools carefully, insist on speaking with owners about business practices, and find the right fit before pre-paying $600+. Lesson learned.
1-3-16 - doth protest too much?? We did not attend a mandatory parent meeting as we were not informed of one. Apparently, buried in their webpage, is information about the first class being a required parent meeting, but we were not informed by email as was the rest of the class. My child had only practiced in a parking lot and had never practiced on a road, so why was she taken on a public street by an instructor? My child completed 90% of the course work but according to WA state law, must take the entire class again - certainly you should know that. Again, go elsewhere, this place is unsafe and unprofessional.

I took the knowledge and driving skills test only with Shield and I had very pleasant experience. I made few minor mistakes (not enough to fail) and Kristie who is a receptionist and an examiner explained to me in detail what has to improve. But be assured that she is there to prevent unqualified drivers to hit the road in a nice but firm manner. I left my expensive sunglasses somewhere in the office or classroom there and she found it and gave it to me when I arrived for my skill test few days later.
I recommend this place.

The problem with this place is not the instructors. The classes are great, the instructors are retired/current officers; they're very knowledgeable and friendly. The problem is the reception. There is only one person there. Customer service is nonexistent. She never calls to confirm appointments. If you call and disagree with her she will hang up on you. I recommend interacting with the front desk as little as possible. Learn here, take the skills test elsewhere. I recommend Defensive Driving School in U District, University Heights School building.
They should really hire someone else to be the public facing component of this school. It's dragging the entire business down. Otherwise it would be the best one in the city.

I made few minor mistakes (not enough to fail) and Kristie who is a receptionist and an examiner explained to me in detail what has to improve. But be assured that she is there to prevent unqualified drivers to hit the road in a nice but firm manner. I left my expensive sunglasses somewhere in the office or classroom there and she found it and gave it to me when I arrived for my skill test few days later.
