I had a good experience with this driving school. Dan, the last instructor arrived early and was instrumental in helping my son prepare for the behind-the-wheel test. At the end of the session, he gave me some valuable feedback to help my son strengthen his skills. It’s important to mention that Jim, the owner, was one of the earlier instructors. From the very beginning, he was incredibly patient, calm, and supportive, which made a huge difference in building my confidence behind the wheel. I'm so glad that we chose Astar Driving School to instruct our daughter on the 6 hours behind the wheel training required prior to taking the driving test. My daughter just finished her driving test with DMV and passed with a perfect score!!! ASTAR has been great through the whole process with my son. From the start there have been little problems that the staff helped us get through. First, DMV didn't print the right forms on the permit paperwork for them to sign off the initial hours. They caught the mistake and let me know what to tell DMV to print. Then, the we SUPER flexible with scheduling his hours, even picking him up from school. Finally, on the day of his drive test, he forgot his certificate of completion. They printed a new one for him on the spot- allowing him to still take his drive test. I would definitely recommend! Read Less

I highly recommend Astar Driving School. I was referred by a few friends who's teenagers completed the course sessions & were quite pleased! Our experience with Astar was mixed. My son only had two lessons with them because he was older and not required to do 6 hours, but we felt that he would benefit from professional instruction all the same. The first session was cut a little short. I thought maybe they would make up the time on the next one, but the second session was even shorter because the instructor went to the wrong part of town looking for our house, even with clear directions. Also, she had a dog in the backseat, which wasn't a big deal, I suppose. My son passed his driving test, but just barely, even though the instructor said he was ready. My daughter is ready for her lessons and we are definitely going elsewhere. Read Less

I just brought my son to Astar Driving School and I am so happy I did!  My son had taken a driving lesson with another school and it was not a good experience for him.  I contacted Astar, after seeing their vehicles driving around town, and asked if they would be able to take my son at their school, even though he had started lessons elsewhere.  They were very accommodating and he just had his first lesson with them today.  The owner of the school, Jodi, was so nice and welcoming.  The driving instructor, Anna, was so good with my son.  He learned a lot from Anna in just one lesson.  He had a great experience, and we are really looking forward to his next lesson! We chose Astar Driving School because we frequently saw them driving through our neighborhood (come to find out we are on the DMV test route), and my daughter wanted to take her driving lessons in a Dodge Challenger. Since Astar had good reviews online (comparable to others) I was ok with choosing them based upon car type. When I made the first appointment I requested the Challenger. When John showed up for the first lesson in the Mustang, I said tough luck kid, it's really not about the car anyway. Off they went, and when they returned lo and behold they were in a Challenger. Apparently my daughter brought up her request for the Challenger during the lesson and they stopped by to switch cars.  Shallowness aside (chuckle); my daughter really liked John. He has a funny personality that matched well with my daughter's silly personality. We requested John for the second lesson and this time he showed up in the Challenger.  Again a successful lesson.  Her last lesson was scheduled for the evening before her actual drivers license test, as John recommended taking the last lesson as close to the DMV test as possible.  For the sake of consistency here, John actually showed up in the Mustang but at this point car type really was irrelevant as it was dress rehearsal time and she was focused on fine tuning her skills, not worried about what care she got.  My daughter took her driving test the following morning and only missed 1 on the test.  John had her very well prepared for the test while keeping it light and fun for her. We never had any issues with scheduling or cancellations other than a request to reschedule earlier in the day which we were able to accommodate so it wasn't an issue. Read Less

I wasn't happy with Astar Driving School. The female instructor arrived to pick up my daughter with a Chihuahua in the back seat; very unprofessional, and very nerve wracking for my daughter's first driving lesson! I'm extremely surprised that AStar allows this. The instructor also thought it very strange that I asked for a receipt for my payment. My daughter did learn a lot from this lesson; however, the 'backseat Chihuahua" is the reason that AStar gets a one-star. Read Less

I chose Astar as a school to go to prepare for my permit and my teacher was Jodi and she is just the best! I passed my permit test the first time!!! She gives the best advice and goes over practice tests with you and her class is so much fun and definitely worth it. A week later I took my first driving lesson with her and I was very nervous. She made this experience so easy for me and I loved her patience especially since it takes me time to get used to new things. She really made me enjoy my 2 hours and I learned so much! She will pick and drop you off wherever your at! I highly recommend her class and her driving lessons. Any staff member is super friendly and I recommend them all! We as parents' dreed the moment when you're kid comes up to you and says "I wanna start driving, can I take Driver's Ed/Training"? A part of you want's to say "Ahhhhh HELLLLZZZZ NO!!!" but then the other part of you thinks..."hmmmmm....run my errands and he/she can drive to school". Ok maybe this might not be too bad.Before I begin telling you about this AWESOME driving school. Let me give you some important information...Your child can begin driver's Ed (reading part) at age 15-1/2. Once the course is complete he/she can go to DMV and take a written test to get a permit. This will allow the child to train behind the wheel with an adult. Your child will then need to sign up for Driver's Training. This is basically a company that will teach your child how to drive behind the wheel. This is needed if he/she is not 18 years old, otherwise they do not need to take Driver's Training and can go straight to DMV to take their behind the wheel test for their driver's license.Since my lil man refused to wait until he was 18, I knew I had to find a Driver's Training school and I found Astar. I'm so happy I did. The course was 6 months long (a standard for all schools). The 6 months course, is basically 3 (2 hours behind the wheel) course. It's 6 months, because you can't take the 2nd course until 2 months after the first one. The cost at the time was $300 (subject to change). I know you're probably saying...."dang that is a lot"!!Let's just say it was all worth it, because my lil man, PASSED!! Yup!! Holla at me!! *high five* He pass!!! Only did 2 errors. His teacher was Jody and I highly recommend her (I think she is the owner) my son specifically requested her. The cool thing about this company is they picked up my son at school and dropped him off at a designated place which I requested. This saved me time, since I was working.If you have a child who needs Driver's Ed/Training...look no further!! This is the place for you. Very punctual, a friendly staff, and the last course is set up a couple of days before the DMV test, regardless of how busy they are. They will find time to make it work. FYI...once your kid has a driver's license, he/she cannot have a minor passenger in the car for 1 year. My friend moved into town from China and needed to get a CA DL. Called Jodi to schedule a 2 hour lesson so my friend could get familiarized with American driving. Jodi was very nice over the phone, told me what options my friend has. Then on the day of lessons, Ana actually was the one taught her. My friend said Ana was very nice and professional. Very patient and gave her lots of useful information.Then on the testing day, Jodi went with my friend and she PASSED! 99 points! DMV was backed up and Jodi patiently waited with my friend, during the wait time, Jodi gave her some very useful information about the town and things to do..etc. Overall a great experience with two great ladies! First driving experience for my daughter driving the Mustang left her a little unimpressed and disgruntled. Seems to be a personality conflict with the instructor more than anything else, so I called to schedule her next appointment and voiced my concerns to the owner Jody and asked that we schedule the follow up appointments with only her, she agreed. An hour before my daughters 2nd appointment I received a call to inform me that Jody was at the DMV in Napa and didn't think she would make it to Vacaville in time for the appointment, she offered me a later time or to reschedule to another day. I chose another day, the following Monday. The next day I received another call from her that she had a scheduling conflict and would I be willing to reschedule to another day. Sure, no problem, schedule for the following Monday. I worked Sunday night and came home that Monday to sleep, when I woke up my daughter informed me that Astar was trying to contact her to resch her appointment because they had a cancellation earlier in the day, but it was with the other instructor who she did not care for. Several "texts" went back and forth and her final text stated no, she was not available in the day, she already had an appointment that evening. Miscommunication on their part, they thought she was cancelling her appointment. About 15 minutes after her originally scheduled appt time I called Astar to question if they were coming. The office girl that answered the phone told me she would call Jody but she thought she was already ion her way home. I received a phone call back from the office girl and was told that Jody had "texted" her back and told her my daughter had cancelled her appt, the night before! I didn't want to get into it with the poor office girl so I told her to have Jody call me. When Jody calls back she states that she made a mistake, my daughter did not call to cancel, another customer had and she was sorry. I told her my disappointment  in her customer service and that  I would not be continuing with the driving classes through her company. She offered to come that night for the driving lesson but would not get to us until 7:00 or later, or we could reschedule for the next morning at 7:30. Totally unacceptable to me, such a blatant disregard of our time, she also offered to pay for her driving lesson with another school but at this point I just wanted to be done with them, my trust was lost. To top it off she had the original driving instructor call me back and try to tell me that my daughter had "texted" him that she was canceling her appt when that is not what the text had said. Adding fuel to the fire by having this man call me was not in their best interest, I was furious. If you don't mind disrespect for your time and concerns and a company that functions through their use of cell phones please pick this company to teach your teenager how to drive, if you want a truly great driving experience that cares about your time and your child call Formula one driving school in Vacaville, excellent instruction, customer service, and my daughter did so well on her driving test she only missed 1 Read Less
